a while back we were talking about Bobs Big Boy resturants and I said I knew of a statue that sat out front of them. this is one its about 12 feet high and made of fibre glass.I wanted to show it for those who haven't seen one.Sorry I can not give speciffics of location etc.I have promised that to a specific HAMBER and won't give out info unless he tells me he is not interested in buying it then it would be up for grabs though
There's one of those outside a custom chopper shop or something similar in the northern suburbs of Detroit and it's done up so he looks like a biker. Goatee and I think a bandana on his head. Pure genius.
I just want to respect the fact that I told that person they have first chance to buy the only thing I have of value is my word and I'd like to keep it.respect of ones word means a lot to me
You can buy these new in California. There is a nursery/yard place in Acton, CA. This is on Interstate 14 on the way to El Mirage from the valley. I've have seen a couple at least once. DW
IT shouldn't be to hard to find a 12 foot statue in Ct. Most cars are under 5 ft and behind a fence. Rodger
I have promised that to a specific HAMBER and won't give out info unless he tells me he is not interested in buying it then it would be up for grabs though[/QUOTE] Wow, I have wanted one of those for a long time! It would be in CT, if it is refused by the first guy. Shipping too, dang! I'd like to have a muffler man, too. Any in the midwest, cheap?
Cecil, the guy who owns Hercules Motors in Tampa (builds new '33/'34 Woodie bodies and cars) has one. He just had it repainted. If I had one, I think I'd repaint the uniform so it was different, get rid of the burger and put a fully dressed plastic Pyra (sp?) mock-up engine on it. -Brad
Does anyone know of a football from Johny Unitas Quarter back Club resterants ?they had 1/2 a football on the roof. One here got painted pink one halloween !
We used to have one of the restaraunts here.. Someone stole the statue once and it ended up in a small man made pond up the road from the joint.. About waste deep holding the burger up so it wouldn't get wet.. The pond was next to the entrance to the exressway...if you were getting on the expressway, you saw it plain as day..funny shit.
I remember those from when I was a kid. They were all over out here, now I dont see that many of them. I remember seeing one that was converted to another restaurant, and they repainted the statue to change it, but dont remember the name of it.
There is one on the side of the 101 near Ventura.. It near the old Santa from Santa Claus lane....Behind a fence..but plain view from the highway..He looks lonely..EVILT
there's one in Columbus, OH. it's a newer one but still pretty cool, cuz like you all have said, don't see too many of 'em anymore. I can't recall what interstate it's off of, but i do know it's only about a 20 minute drive south of Columbus. might be off Route 71?
out here they were Bobs big boy, Then abdows Big boy, then abdows and now it's a Bickfords Bobs and johny Unitas resturants came here later tha on the west coast
there was (not sure if its still there) an authentic big boy statue at a big ol lawn ornament type place off the 14 south of palmdale....if i recall correctly, there was a giant rooster and a model t in the lot too. the sign says...EVERYTHING is for sale....
Down here in the south they were known as "Shoneys Big Boy" resturaunts. Later they ditched the Big Boy statues and just went by Shoneys.( if anybody gives a shit)
Yeah, I stopped in their once and inquired as to how much $$$$? We're talking $2500.00 That's why it's still there. We used to kidnap the one in Alhambra on ValleyBl. (where we used to hang out after the St Races on Fri-Sat nites) It would just magically re-appear. Man now that place is called Noodle Planet and they keep a Bob's statue inside on the counter-Go figure.
Back in the '50s a lot of us in So Cal had "customized" Bob's Big Boy decals on our windows with the Big Boy's head sitting on the platter and the hamburger on top of his neck.
over here they just re-opened the bob's on hawthorne and PCH that was a bob's then a coco's and now a bob's again. havent had a big boy in probably 4 years...the one off the 10 at the 15...cant wait for some blue cheese and fries and red pickle relish....
Derek, I'm not sure about one off the 10/15fwy. You do have one close by there in Diamond Bar right off the 60 on the south side off the fwy when headed east last exit b4 the 57. I go there some times, but hit the ones in Glendale & Toluca Lake mostly. There is still an unchanged on Wilshire Bl. by Loe Elhers Cad. And I think that I'll take ride over to Hawthorne to take in the revamped one. Wish they never took out the original that's in Don Montgomery's Book that was on Colorado BL. directly accross the street from their general offices. It too was a drive in & was replaced by a Stinkin Blockbuster!!!!
You're making me hungry!!!!! Just had one last friday @ Toluca Lake Bob's. Was real good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Like I said in the other post, I'm gonna take a ride over to Hawthorne & check that one out too! Thanks for the info.
WOW!!! It's a Bob's again!!! I grew up there! I was so bummed when they turned it into a Carrows- I'm going there tomorrow!!!
It's actually in Torrance Kevin- if you come over I'll go with ya- It's inbetween my house and Lynn Bird's house.
Sounds like a plan, I hope that you can wait about 2 days from now, cuz I'm in Portland @ the moment should be back by friday. I hope that ya can wai that long?
remember when that evil docter named Dr Evil tried to used a big boy statue to hold the world hostage and demanded one million billion dollers in ransom?
In the late 60s I worked at Contemporary Fiberglass in Azusa and we had the repair contract for the statues. BOB was everywhere. Wayno
