"Beside the Barn" willys find

Here is the fender on the car. I have a little work to do with the fit up to the body. No big deal. The picture also shows how large the cut out is on these fenders. They are quite high on top and way too tight on the bottom. The lower part in front of the tire has already been trimmed and I have marked a line to trim the rear.

 

This is how I want the fenders to look. The actual opening will be a little larger. The tape represents the area that will be rolled. I have done these panels before.

 

This is the wood buck that I used to make the panels on my black coupe. I will modify this slightly and use it to create the patch panels for these fenders. It takes about 3 1/2 hours to stretch the metal completely around the buck. I do this with a body hammer. Stay tuned.

This is the new panel for the fender arch repair. This panel was formed with a BTF method (beat to fit)

 

The back side of the panel. I have trimmed this panel to create an even arch.

 

This is the panel rough trimmed. At this point I have scribed a line to trim the panel to.

 

This picture shows that I have trimmed off half of the radius at the lower front of the panel. I did this so that I could use my shrinker to get the panel to curve at the lower front of the fender. Once the panel is fitted I will weld the piece back on. There is probably a lot easier way to do this but with limited equipment and skills this is how I get it done.

 

This is the panel fitted and clamped in place.

 

Panel welded in place. I didn't like the curve at the lower rear so I will be cutting that off and creating a new one.

These are the wood bucks that I used to create the lower front (top) and lower back of the fender. The back one is burnt because I had to slice around the edge to get a tight radius. I welded the cuts back up while it was on the buck.

 

This picture shows the fender completed. After forming the lower front panel I had to curve it to fit the fender. I did this using my shrinker and a hammer. I still have a little hammer and dolly work to do but it's close. I need to do the same process with the other rear fender. This will complete the work on all the body panels.
