Has anyone ever used a Chevy Vega steering box for a Schroeder style steering setup? hotrod_daddy@att.net
If you install the pitman arm pointing down, it will go left when you turn right with a vega box. A reversed corvair box will install with the arm pointing down. Vega boxes are usually used in a cross steer system.
August issue of Rod & Custom shows a Vegas box being used, not though the cowl but though the frame. Pitman arm is pointing up.
Basically the same as on a Corvair, except having to turn off the big hex, to make room for a u-joint to connect the column. After turning off the hex, you have to drill a couple holes for a spanner wrench to tighten the cover/cap.
See the Casny build posts 131 & 138 for some excellent pics of this setup: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/the-chris-casny-coupe-model-a-build-pics.260588/page-7
