Great pictures of a rare aircraft. One of my customers here in Smithfield, NC owned one of the three flying tri-motors in the world until just a few years ago. His name was Dolph Overton, a great American. He was an F86 ace during the Korean War and was black balled out of the military for pursuing enemy aircraft into China. He was also a big car collector through the years. He sold the tri-motor at auction via Barrett Jackson for $1.5M to a collector in Arizona. Beautiful piece of history, thanks for posting.

  20. Well, I can honestly say I am in no way a little jealous of your ride, my jealousy is much MUCH stronger than that!! Love the Tri-Motor, historically such an important aircraft, in its time (first flew about 1924-5) just as leading and revolutionary as the DC-3 was when it was released in 1936.
The fun of riding in these is the Noise, the Heat and the borderline lack of comfort!
Glad to see you had a lot of fun!

    Doc.

Very cool. I saw the Tri- Motor fly at Oshkosh. It looks like a flying quonset hut.

Wow Rich, that ride must have been a huge adrenaline rush!,Gotta love the sound of a radial engine, three of those bad boys sounds good in the video but I would bet they are really loud and exciting while sitting inside.

Thank you for posting,BTW the roadster looks good sitting with the tri-motor. HRP

Love those Tri-motors. Built a model kit of one when I was a kid. They are so very cool. Thanks for posting all the pics and video. That must have been a blast to go up in one.

According to the history placard, that was the year it starred in the movie "The Family Jewels" with Jerry Lewis.

You probably saw them filming the flight clips used in the movie.

Here's a clip of the movie.....

    Very cool history.

  30. Thank you very much!
