Reading this has made me glad, that I got rid of my hot rod and went back drag racing. Don't have this problem at the track.

I was at a show several years back, I don't remember what town, but I watched a young girl walk up one row of cars, and down another putting fliers in, or on the W/S of prob 100 cars. A local policeman who happened to be there, told the person the town had an ordinance against the practice. She had to retrace her steps and remove each one.

I think I would be more mad about the lady taking something out of my car. I don't care if she put it in or not she had to open a door or lean in thru the window. the last could damage my tractor paint............................................................I have also noticed most of the people putting out the flyers are not car people just folks giving a little time for their cause. ...............Last no one ever puts flyers in the swap meet areas.

Here's an idea. Before our last car show we'd put a box of fliers out at the local cruise nites. Also at the shows we started just putting various club fliers on the DJ desk. Those who didn't really want them often still read the fliers and put them back. Less garbage and less problems.

...............Great idea. Put them in a central location, if folks want to take one fine, if they read it and don't think they would be interested, just leave it.

Not to stray too far off topic here, but while we're airing out the grievences about car shows...maybe this is just an Oregon hippie thing, but the last couple of car shows I have been to have been invaded by some rather pushy pe***ion circulators. I didn't take time off work and drive to a car show to tolerate you, and your goofy politics, shoving a pe***ion in my face to sign. How about I bring some hairy-legged hot rodders to your next political function?

I freaking hate those fliers! My white seat hasnt been stained yet, but i sure hope it doesnt! And when the put em on the windshield, what do they do with the other 100 fliers in their hand, when the use two hands to set one flier under the wiper? I would hope they wouldn't set them on the hood!

I know what you are talking about, the hippies asked if it was ok we said no. They did it anyways.

Guilty as charged! Last week end I put about 50 flyers at a local show inviting people to participate in the July 4th parade. Confined them only to local cars based on the window signs. In as much as I've collected scads of them at various shows I never gave it a second thought that it might be bothersome to people. Hope the car owner that got the special flyer offering a $1000 reward for showing up on the 4th didn't throw it away!

I like flyers, they are like an invitation to another car party! If you are so pissed about people putting flyers in your car at car shows, you better sell your car and take up a less stressful hobby! Life is too short to complain about something so trivial and the HAMB is not a place to be a complaint department!

  12. Well, here's what I do, and I organize 3 shows a year (and get to one just about every weekend), when I get to a show I ask the organizer of the show if I can put a box of fliers on the registration table, I've never been refused. Then I carry a couple hundred flyers with me and hand them to everyone I see, If people don't want them they'll tell you. I always feel that I not only want the people with cars to know about my shows but the spectators also. I never throw any into the cars without the owners permission.

I was going to say something catchy about committing the souls of those that drop flyers in others cars to about the seventh circle of hell, but after Denis4X4's response I'll back out a bit. I understand about spreading the word, and lord knows I am a relentless self promoter, but reaching in somebody's car and throwing a paper that they may or may not want in my book is completely intolerable. If nothing else it makes my car look like a rolling trash bin - and I don't need any help with that. The shows I want to go to are already planned out and decided on months in advance.

As far as getting ink stains out of vinyl, go ion the house and grab the wife's hairspray... It works wonders. Follow it up with a bit of 409 type cleaner and life is good.

I've been playing with old cars for a long time and have never heard of flyers ever being an issue.

when I worked in a print shop in high school I found out regular 3% hydrogen peroxide removes dried printer ink in clothing without bleaching the colors .

I do not mind the flyers but this was the first time one stained a seat, its just a warning to those who p*** them out that they can stain seats so be careful. It was a seat I took extra time to make it better then the way it came from the factory to have it possibly ruined by a car show flyer.

This thread is talking about two different things:

Show flyers (which I love to get) and random advertising leaflets thrown in cars (which I hate).

  19. Is the one star feature for threads still available?

  20. As a guy who put on a pretty darn good small show for a few years and will probably regroup for a run next year, i can honestly say that for the most part, i put the fliers in the HANDS of the owners of the cars that i'd like to see at my show when ever possible so that i can personally promote my gig. now granted, i'm kind of a snob and i'm very selective about who gets my fliers so that my show stays tight and i require a photo entry etc... but if i have to (and i do on occasion) put a flier in a car, i try to do so on the dash or at least in a location that will not create such problems for the owner. at the very least i make sure my rag is on top of all the others so i'm not guilty of the original indictment.

That being said, you know the routine. don't go to a show and leave your window down if you don't want your car to become a repository for junk mail...

If it happens again I am going to contact whoever is putting the event on and tell them that whoever is printing the flyer is not using good ink,the flyer in question was not the usual one sided on paper but made of a thicker material with printing on both sides. I am thinking a few who responded think its not a serious matter so I hope it happens to you the next time you are at a show,to me its the same as someone scratching the paint which also happened to me a month ago on the same car.

We have a Fat Lucky's white leather interior and I hate flyers on my seats. I've told several people not to drop flyers on the seats and got an argument about it.
I now just throw them out onto the ground. (litter, not politically correct, I know) I didn't ask for them, and won't have them.
When the show promoter gets enough flak about leaving a mess in the area THEY will do something about it.

I agree..I hate those flyers. I have started keeping my windows up and doors locked at shows. I think if the windows are up people are less likely to lean in to see something. Plus, with the doors locked it hopefully keeps people from thinking they can just open the doors. I was at a cruise in saturday and there was a really nice (REALLY NICE) original toyota landcruiser and 3 teenagers were around it and one idiot girl was trying to open the door. I originally thought it might be there because they were leaning on it and taking those dumb*** selfies. I told them that if it wasn't there car to NOT touch it and they got pissed at me. I would hope someone would do the same if they saw someone by my car.

I've never had a problem with show flyers. 'Course my interior is black as God intended. I guess if I had a mega buck white antelope *** pleather, with ra**** **** piping I could see the point.

I think part of the problem here, at least probably the past 10 or 15 years, is that it's SO much cheaper to print color at home with a $50 Wallyworld printer and a $6 ream of cheap paper than it is to get color copies made at a proper print shop. That's where all the ink bleeding is coming from.

I've been getting fliers for my own OT events made for years (I don't put them on or in cars) and I've never had a bleeding issue because I either get them made or I use quality machines and materials that don't melt.

  26. When I used to volunteer to help out with a big car show/swap meet near here I'd always slip the flier in between the door and the side of the seat so that it didn't clutter the interior if the owner wasn't around. But it always used to make me scratch my head when I'd try to smile and hand a flier to the owner who was sitting in a lawn chair behind their car and half the time they'd look at me like I was speaking Japanese and they wouldn't even extend their hand to take the flier. I'd feel like an idiot as they'd just stare at me for violating their car's "personal space" (?) so as I walked away I'd be sure to mention that "Well, I really didn't want your car at our show anyway. We were hoping to get some NICE people that wanted to have FUN...".

Nope, not true. I was there.......

There were a lot of flyers p***ed out at the Roundup. My T-Bird isn't all that interesting, but it got a ton of looks when I made it a rolling bulletin board. IMG_4667.JPG

RESPECT! That's what Aretha sang about! The "NEW GENERATION"car show enthusiast has a lack of it. You would think that someone promoting a CAR SHOW would understand and show that respect to the owners of the vehicles they are trying to recruit! But for some reason the new age car show promoters are not so much respectful to other's property. They are looking for quan***y not quality of vehicles the more folks they have dolling out $20 or $25 the more cash they put in the coffers. A quick story I have of a guy leaning all over my car at a cruise in one night so much so that the front of my car looked lowered I could see it from two rows away. I walk up and say hey do ya mind get your A$$ off my fender! He looks at me and says "WHAT" take it easy man it's not like you have a Corvette or something! Needless to say people just don't care so much or show RESPECT to others property any more.

As entertaining as this thread is, it explains my lack of fondness for car shows.
I will likely not attend any once my RPU is finished.
I may break down and do one a year but the experience is not all that fun.

Clowns at the circus was a really great way to put it. :D

And there is the money shot! Take the time to hand the flyers to the people you want to see at your show instead of carpet bomb the place! I am always flattered when some one comes up to me and says "I'm doing a show, and I'd really like your car there", then hands me a flyer.
