I looking into changing my drive train on my 1954 chevy belair from the original power glide to a overdrive tranny I was told to use a 2004r tranny with a rear axle that a gear ratio of 3.73 or 4.10 so my question is what vehicles does these parts come off of ? Tranny and rearend ??? Or what's your guy's take on my situation .. Thanks for your info.....
I'm running a 200 4R in my 49 with a 3.42 rear end out of a 4wd s10. With lock up converter in OD I'm turning 1800 rpms at 62 mph. This is with a sbc. 3.73 is also an option in the s10. Posted with a Merganthaler Linotype.
Assuming a 6.70-15 tire, or very similar size, 4.10:1. These engines do not like being lugged. It is better to spin them just a little quicker, than just a little too slow. The axle can come, with this ratio, from a Chevy S10 4x4 pickup. It is a little narrow, but it will work. Vintage '76-ish Camaro is better, but the ratio is non-native. A 200R4 can come from any 2WD GM product that used one: 1981-90 B-Bodies, Impala, Caprice, Delta 88, LeSabre, (83-86) Parisienne, and wagons 1981-84 C-Bodies, Electra, 98, (82-84) DeVille & Fleetwood Broughams 1984-88 G-Bodies and Pontiac Grand Prix, GMC Caballero, El Camino, Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme, Regal 1985-90 D-Bodies Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham & Brougham 1981 Pontiac Firebird (with 301cid engine, non-turbo) 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Indy Pace car (with Buick V6 and a Turbocharger) Go here: http://car-part.com/ You should be able to locate the parts via that site. Beats crawling yards.
The 200R4 was not ever used in the S10, that was the 700R4. In any case, even if you have a 700R4 that you think is a 200R4, it is not a 4WD one, unless you are a VERY talented machinist.
Oh, and the 700R4 will fit under the stock floor, in case your were wondering, or could not find a 200R4.
All. They did not change, save for the meaningless addition of an ABS sensor, and minor brake differences, 1983-2003.
I have a 3.89 gear with 29.5" tall tires behind my 2004R - 1940 Willys coupe 3200lbs. 2100 rpm at 70 mph.
Sorry I didn't clarify. The rear end is the only thing s10, my 200 4r is from a mid 80's monte ss. Posted with a Merganthaler Linotype.
