I recently purchased a complete 54 Bel-Air body dirt cheap. I plan on getting it running and low, then driving the hell outta The car has no front or rear seat and I have had no luck locating one. Can anyone help me or give recommendations on what bench seat to use?
1980s and 1990s GM fullsize Caprice, Cadillac DeVille, Olds 98, Buick Electra and similar cars all will work. Seating position may be low compared to stock. Upper rear seat is the only place the Chevy is narrower than the later cars - either trim your seat back a little or use one from a smaller car.
I'm in the same boat also. Are you saying the rear seat from these cars will also work with a little modification?
Thanks I really want a split bench but I'm may just get something for now. Any pointers on the rear seat? Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
thought I saw one the other day on evilbay........just type in 54 chevy seat at the top, mite have been 53 but look at 49-54
I put a nice front seat in my 56 buick wagon out of a chevy pick up truck.Man that thing is comfey.Bruce.
And I do have the head rests for it and am going to put seat belts in it.It great not having springs poking you in the ass anymore.lol.Bruce.
Bruce, That seat looks OK but I wouldnt put the headrest back on even if I werent gonna upholster it. I have thought about installing some (80s) door pull straps with the hardware on the ends to cover those holes, before when considering a later model seat in something older. Headrest in 50s back cars just look wrong to me. Heres a 55 I put some early 90s nissan pickup seats in, Notice the headrest are gone. I cant say they looked the greatest in there but they didnt look too bad considering. I got the back seat out of a 4 door 71 chevelle and dyed it to match.
................Bruce What year and style chevy pickup is that? Split back in a truck? extended cab work truck maybe most extended cabs have bucket seats.
My son installed a '85 Cutlass front and rear seat in his '54 sedan. the front fit like it was made for it and the rear just needed a little adjustment. the fronts he used were the 60-40 split bench, worked out great.
Your right low budget, they didn't look right so I took them back out.I am not sure what year pick up the seat came out of but I found it on the local C.L. and when I went to pick it up the seat it was aready out. The guy had a yard full of classic chevy trucks in all stages . Bruce.
