When I was a student the Pretoria traffic cops got a whole bunch of Nissans with registrations that began with HHH. In Afrikaans the letter H is called "ha", so whenever we'd see one of these parked we'd read the plate out loud ...

Two or three years later they got a few cars with numbers beginning with KGB. That was more deeply appropriate.

My wife's car has a plate that reads AML 427 (animal 427, right?). Should be on a fire breathing muscle car shouldn't it? It's on her S-10 Blazer.

The RMV lady told me she loved showing veterans plates to choose from due to the number of military acronyms they can always think of something from them. The first one she showed me was LE12 and I said no, when my two daughters said "Oh, yes-Lauren and Erin, 1 and 2". Free vanity plate!

I came out of a hardware store one time looking for my OT Cadillac in the parking lot. Parked right next to my Cad was the exact same year Cad, in the same exact gray color with the vanity plate BJR which are my initials from the same state Wisc. The only difference in the cars was his had hub caps and mine had aluminum wheels.

California DMV is offering period correct plates showing black/yellow styles. There have already been thousands of applications and fees are reasonable. Much easier than having originals restored or buying a matched set from a vendor and trying to get them registered with DMV.

I had a friend who was issued a standard issue plate AMF 001 for his family vehicle. They were on vacation several states over and was pulled over for doing 5 over. The Officer says to him about his plate "So you think that's funny Huh". My friend was dumbfounded, didn't realize in some places that the AMF stood for Adios Mother Frr.

I have FORD32 on my trailer waiting for my '32 Vicky to be finished. Also have FORD1932 on my caravan. Both numbers are unique in Germany and you only get the FO prefix if you live in Forchheim in Baveria. Great thing is they cost just $15 and you have them for life!
Not really accidental but amazing they were available.
Best accidental I had was EDV670Y which read like Ed V6 Toy. Great as my name is Ed. Shame it was on a 4 cylinder though.

    HehHehHeh...that's priceless!

I always laugh when I drive past the Fresno Teacher's****ociation, which has a big military looking logo on the building which proudly says "FTA" on it.

In the Vietnam era FTA was commonly read as "Fuck The Army".

My Mom bought a new '76 Pacer in 1976 and when she got the plates from the DMV they read "702 NFG".
How did they know? That car really was N.F.G.

Yes, I have the original plates on my '63 Falcon with a .040" over 454. But a friend found a pair of old Oregon plates that I am going to transfer to my car soon. Custom plates, without the big fee our state charges for custom!

years ago Maryland sold plates at a department store. 2 letters and 4 numbers. one of the local girls took orders and she would pull a set when the cool number came up so for a few years guys would get plates with their year on it...CN 1955 or BB 1956 etc etc. pretty cool to see a 55 Chevy running these plates.

I was collecting my 1932 plates from every state when a pair of 32 NJ plates came up on EBAY V8 454. They don't have YOM so they were cheap. he was also selling V8 455 for the Buick crowd but I passed on them.

Couple of years back, when I was living in Wisconsin, I started seeing regular issue plates with the prefix THX. Through a friend, I checked into whether THX 138 had been issued. It had. It was issued to a Honda Accord.

My mom had an OT car several years back with the license CTX * 3OM - her first initial is C, she lives in Texas and had 3 kids and an 'Old Man'...made it pretty easy to remember!

Not really 'accidental', but a Back East HAMBER (can't remember the state, but in smaller letters, bottom of plate says "Children First".
Wise guy had them issue the plate characters as: EAT THE.
    Couldn't believe my eyes. LOL

  19. I just saw a picture of that plate somewhere in the last couple of day's, can't remember where.
