Chip has addressed this before in this thread, but it's refreshing to see a bucket that's fitted well to the owner's presence, not to his absense. Chip's car looks "right" with a driver aboard, a fact which underscores his plan to add minimal padding to the buttox area and backrest. Harder on the glutius maximus but much, much better for the visual balance.

    Good eye, Chip, good eye.[/QUOTE]

Thank you sir! A large Swedish butt helps too!

It's morning, the only thing to change your game is probably the "A" roadster PU? Guessing is fun... :)

  3. I think he discovered Duplicolor's carbon fiber paint kit and is doing the entire body in CF. That or a chopped '28 A grill...

SAM_6441.JPG Well, I had to get some official business out of the way before I showed you guys the latest development. Take a look now at my new thread "THANK YOU HRM 2K", then come back.... I'll wait...

There! I see you're back. Isn't that the coolest damned thing? It just floors me that someone would send something so cool and wanted to a total stranger just on premise that he do something cool with it! A quick thanks to Halibrand Steve for doing exactly the same with the gas cap, too. I'm still reeling from that one!

Since I started this thread, I have been in a bit of a state of flux about what to do with carburation on this car. An early sixties open engine car was ALL about many, many carbs and strange set ups were being tried left and right, I though maybe a cool scoop would help deal with my car's "shortcomings" (i.e. single carb-edness), and it has helped placate a bit, but there has been something better in the back of my brain.

Funny thing is, last afternoon I had spent some time laying down with all three dogs across my chest, ('cause that's what they do) as I had blown my back up pretty bad working earlier in the day. I had picked up the Speedway catalog to get an idea of what I could do to rebuild these three semi-nasty 97s on my wall, and delved into what a three - two manifold might cost to do such a thing. Would look bitchin' on the car, true. But, what to do with the carb tops that all three sported, that had been bashed by untold bows from the handles of countless screwdrivers and probably many times worse? The answer was in my hands just an hour later thanks to hrm 2k from here on the H.A.M.B. The answer was something that I had wanted forever, but never bothered to gift myself with, S.P. Stromberg 97 tops...

So ya, it looks like I'll be putting together a set of three S.P. Topped Strombergs for this beast! Set the way-back machine for the early sixties, please...

Nah, I'm holding out for the "Plaid in a can" spray paint that has been promised for so many years by so many companies...

Good luck on the 3x2 system. A multi-carb engine will always get the looks.

  7. Yup, that'll be cool. Not as cool as a 4-71, but...:p

Again, mission accomplished! These things are sooooo much fun to drive around in. I used to love to ride motorcycles, but as I get older and the traffic in my area gets more careless, I lose more of the desire to ride. My 'bucket to me is basically a large motorcycle that can't possibly fall off of it's kickstand! It doesn't offer too much more protection that a bike, but some.

I can't possibly explain how much fun this thing is to tear around in! Last night after Bodi shot that picture, I started my 3 mile ride home. The air rolling over you on a typical hot early summer Phoenix night is like nothing else on this planet. Rolling past the pizza joint at 7th ave and McDowell I put my head up and sniffed in the glorious aroma as I rolled past. The coffee shop down the way must have been roasting last night, the last few blooms of the late blooming Palos-Verde trees were still perfuming the night air. Ducking through the dark concrete streets of the Coronado district, the irrigation must have just shut off 'cause the temp plummeted from about 100 to about 80 in the more vegetated areas. I stopped for a gal to cross in the cross walk and caught a whiff of that "chubby gal perfume" they all seem to wear so well. Past the sidewalk taco and Sonoran Dog (ya, hot dogs... Just clarifying!) stands that dot 16th street and their heavy scents of carne asada, fresh tortillas, and salsas whirled through the night air. Hell, as I rolled back down McDowell, for some reason Rainbow Donuts was cooking already! I just can't describe a Phoenix summer night ride in a 'bucket to anybody if you haven't experienced it first hand! What I can do though is extend the offer of a ride if you hit the Phoenix area.... My 3 mile ride home turned into about 8 or 9 miles...

Where was I when you were telling people about the Rosita Confluence? o_O

Chip that will be a great early '60s bucket engine look. The more vintage stuff you put on that roadster the more notice you'll get. Ask me how I know.
People wonder why they don't like T buckets. Stay on this thread and you'll find some you will like. Get it through your heads their are rules and and their is a model and if you deviate you can and probably will go to UGLY.

When you find manifolds that are drilled for Strombergs the choice should be easy because you don't see that many on them these days. I have never had a bucket and never thought i would want one but this thread has become one of my favorites because on the great variety of information.

I went through a "I hate T buckets phase" in the eighties, but outgrew that BS in the nineties, when I started revisiting some of the classic buckets that had inspired me when I was a kid sticking pictures on my walls in the late sixties, like the Knutson/DeBenidictus/Rickles cars. Its funny, coming of age always seems to involve going back to your roots.

I think the phase you went through was "I hate UGLY T buckets" and all that was out there in the late '60s through the '80 was UGLY T buckets. Until Franko came out with his first Kookie Kar Klone. Actually that was a pretty ugly time for most things. Finally we started coming back to our roots in most things. Nostalgia T buckets and other rods, 501's, P.F. Flyers (although I really loved my UGLY Super Bells and square toe harness boots) and so on.

On a different note, I won the burnout contest at yesterday's local car show. I guess the crowd liked a real hot rod over the late model Mustangs and diesel trucks. I heard later the guy in the 80's Camaro was pissed 'cause he thought he shoulda won. 203.jpg 203.jpg

Don't feel bad, it's been doing that for me too.

Well, some days are more fun driving the 'Bucket than others. Drove 22 miles up to mom's this mid day for brunch with my nephews. The time/temp signs I saw ranged from a low of 105 to a high of 122.... The truth is somewhere in between! Just walked back to the shop since I've been home, and it's thermy is reading 110. The car still won't go over 190 though. We're not even in the "hot" part of summer yet! Time for nap with the dogs...

Yep, saw that the last couple of days since I have been lookin'! I think I'm going to run down a couple of leads here locally for something a bit more affordable and vintage, first. If not, a few things on e-Bay and it's game on!

I just bought a 3 deuce setup for my 324 olds engine which is going in my roadster pickup. There is a good news / bad news part of that. I guess I need to sell my Dan Woods weed burner headers that came with my car................chrome with inserts..................and very old.....wrapped in 70's newspaper

    Hey, Chip;

Those SP carb tops would look best on top of Strombergs perched on a 4-71, or maybe a 6-71, w/a 2" belt.

& you know it... :D . & maybe a lengthened Surfer-style scoop as a topper? In candy tangerine w/boat-type flake? Nice reflection(s) off of the polished Sp surface(s)... :D .

& iffen you're going to be hittin' ebay, well, might as well get what you *need* & go for broke.. :D , no pun intended. Maybe then the TC slicks won't "bite" so well anymore... :D .

You had asked about shades of orange. I kinda like candy tangerine, or almost candy copper. & maybe boat-type (Roth?) flake? I'm kinda partial to the bright colors of late. I hope to never see pastel on a car/truck/plane/etc again, as long as I live. :D .

I especially like the 5spokes on your T. They look so... right, esp w/the tire sizes. Congrats. Nailed it.

    Marcus...

  30. How much do you need for the headers??
