Hopefully Casper will chime in and post a photo of his. When I win the lottery I plan on heading to his house with a fistful of cash and coming home with it.

Lets not bad mouth the 63 2 topper now. My first Corvette.

  5. I remember in '64 and '65 seeing a few "customized" 1963 Split windows where the owner had fitted the cars with the later one-piece rear windows. Can anyone say "big mistake"!!!

Yup. Now, people are fixing those old mistakes to put them back the way they should be. What was once detested is now cherished. So strange.

Love the 63 split windows, but this is a traditional hot rod and customs site ........ you may cop some flack for this thread.
    Good luck

i am looking at lowering the rear about a foot !!! it looks like a 4x4 back there! it needs a rollbar( maybe chromed) and disc brakes on the front and i have been thinking kidney beans and knock offs but i am a purist about original American Racing d-spokes, i have a set of 15x7 porsche d's , they have the same front offset as 15x6's but a bigger backspace.

I had one and got many tickets with it. Only a 300 HP 4 speed but it would haul the mail. That was in 1965. Mine was silver and it had power vents behind the door glass that was not available in 63. I would like to find that one today.

I don't think you'll get it down a foot. But it's a piece of cake to lower, just longer bolts through the spring.

  12. Voodoo,
I dislike the Corvette Club guy just for that attitude. Well that and they think that their shit doesn't stink.

it is hard to improve on an old vette and that is a fact, but in my eyes they were made to be improved.

BTW there is a thread just for corvette gassers right here:

I hope you are joking about lowering down a foot. As it is, it's sitting perfectly. Anything less just wouldn't look right.

Yep, pretty snooty folk. I've spent about 10 years restoring a complete numbers matching 63' FI engine. Tried to give the serial number to the NCRS to see if anyone had the car for it. All they would do is harass me about having to join up before sharing my info..

Just once, I'd like to see someone take a restored Vette and put wild paint, a blower and a straight axle on it. It seems like all the cool survivor custom Vettes wind up stock and red.

That is the reason a lot of folks dislike Corvette's,it's their owners. I had to settle for what I could afford when I bought mine, first one I owned was a 84, current one is a 86, but hey, it's still a Corvette. I would love to own a pre 68, but sadly, unless I win a lottery, it will probably never happen. It's got the same blood line, just not as cool.

It didn't go to my head when I bought my first one, and still hasn't. Most folks walk on by my car at a cruise in or show, but I don't care. I bought it for me and the wife to enjoy, the heck with what anybody else thinks. Same thing with my 47 Lincoln, if you don't like it, fine, but I do. And I'll still get my hands dirty helping you fix yours, no matter what I own or drive.................

I'd put a set of period correct Torque Thrust's with some good tires on it and call it finished, but that's just me......

They have escalated in price so much that I gave up. I bought my 63 for 1300.00 dollars Drove it every day for a year added 67 side pipes and sold it for 1500.00 dollars. I wanted the new style 68 427. I bought a nice 62 Vet for 800 dollars added a nice paint job paid for it with winnings from a poker game I realized that I missed the old Fords. I swapped it for a 41 sedan delivery and some cash and have never been able to afford one since.

I remember the white 54 Vette I almost bought at a farm auction. We were snooping in the barn...BARN FIND!.... and the body was full of tiny cracks like a crossword puzzle. I didn't know it was the clear coat or top layer so passed. We were young, stupid, recently married, but I somehow had the money. Damned. Of course later I was still stupid and broke so would have sold it long ago.
Then there was the 63 split window I was ready to trade my left nut for. Wife wouldn't let me go in debt.
Settled for a 1977 coupe after the kids were gone. As mentioned couldn't afford a chrome bumper Vette. That 77 was slower than my 57 Chevy with 327! Kept it for years and finally sold it while here in Floriduuu. Forgot to mention ours was ORANGE! Not that dogshit orange but sorta nice orange.
We weren't stuck up but those owners at Bloomington Gold sure were.

I hear ya, Benno. I own a couple of vintage vettes but I am not an NCRS club member, never was and never will. I had one of THOSE guys giving me shit about the TAPER ANGLE of my antenna ferrule on my '67 coupe! Seriously? The angle of the TAPER on a ferrule?!! GTFO. I just drive the shit out of mine while THOSE guys polish theirs with diapers after they are taken out of enclosed trailers. They are a very strange bunch.

Hahah! Fred, I'm currently building a vehicle that makes Corvette Guys go nuts. I'd post it here but it's not HAMB-compliant. Needless to say, a lot of Corvette Guys that know me are not pleased. I will say that it involves a '55 1st series Chevy truck and a C5. lol

Thanks, he has been gone for about 12 years now. I have been going to do it for a while but every time I got around it there were too many bad memories about him being sick. A couple of months ago we started it and that got me excited about working on it. We have been working on our old wagon and we took it to Bowling Green for the Hot Rod Reunion. Now it is on to this one.
