I was going to text you after work. haha I'm interested in that Hydro article… which means, I'll have to track down a copy and scan it myself!
If I find a copy, I'll still take the gamble. Compiling all that information, so every little bit helps. Since I have three Hydros and most of the tools, I'd like to be able to rebuild/service them. I'll give you $1,000 for all of it. See? That wasn't so hard. Now you've sold it all! haha But yes, I know what you mean. Easy to buy, but half the sellers try to lowball you into taking a loss on selling it. And you know I was just kidding about calling you a hoarder. I'm just jealous of your collection.
neet 4x2 setup, I need to get me one of those, the 4x2 Edelbrock is one I've never had. back to the opening post, I would look for a 324 manifold and put the 371 manifold on the parts pile for a future project. last 2x4 manifold for the 324 I bought was a little over two bills about a year ago. haven't seen too many dual four manifolds for the early 371 lately.. never know what's going to turn up though.
There's a Weiand 2x4 with carbs on fleabay right now for $439, and an Edmunds 2x4 for $699. Prices have been climbing, but I also think prices are a touch over inflated right now. I agree with you though Paul, I rarely see any 2x4 intakes for the 371.
ebay has always been a poor indicator, one person in the world crazy enough to pay big bucks sets the bar? I don't think so.. but apparently some do.. (average junk=gold bullion) that and wages are not keeping up with inflation :/ stay out of that circle and you may find more realistic deals.
I absolutely agree with you. eBay is a very poor indicator of 'value'. Like you said, one crazy person... But I also find that it doesn't even have to sell. A lot of people will give the old "well, they go for $600 on ebay..." Listing price doesn't mean selling price, as you well know. Listing price seems to create a cycle though, where one person is crazy, the second figures his must be worth that since there's one on ebay, and then the third guy figures his is worth that as well because the other two are set at that price. Next thing you know, someone is paying that price because the only ones for sale are all at that benchmark price. I realize in hindsight that my quick post made it seem like I was suggesting that those intakes were 'worth' that. I do think prices have inched up from a few years ago, but certainly not double to triple which we're seeing advertised. I find the best place to determine fair market value is right here on the H.A.M.B.
I dont know, I just bought a '57 corvette 245hp (2x4 hyd cam) cast iron bowl tach drive dual point for $70 on evilbay. Still a few deals to be had on there, you just gotta use your brain and not go nuts... I looked at the Edmunds 2x4, at that price thats all I'll do...
Had my Edelbrock 4x2 like the one pictured here for sale for a long time, no one stepped up......guess it will just sit on on the shelf till I can find a motor to put under it
Same with my Horne, I'll hang on to it until someone wants it at my price. Jot didn't make that many of them.any more. Any interest in a 56 with a standard trans in Austin Texas?
