What is the PERFECT RED paint color? Why?

If you know the color's name or the model and year of the car it came from or perhaps even the paint code, it would be helpful.

Pictures, please, if you have them.

To me Mini Cooper Chilli Red is the perfect red, they know how to apply paint perfectly at the factory, maybe that is why it looks so good. Bob

I once saw a picture of Al Teague's roadster and it was red. I thought it was the best looking one I'd ever seen. The red color, I mean. I later came to think of that color as Roman Red. You might ask someone on the HAMB who knows more about that one than I do. But, if it was Al's choice, I'd have to go with that, considering my thoughts about him after seeing the chopped and flamed hearse that Tom Vandenberg had, that was once Al's tow vehicle. Hmm. I've got a picture of it somewhere. It's not red but it sure is rad.

Get a paint chip for a 1974 Porsche 912e. Indian red...a deep blood color. See it before you buy any.
(It's a Sikkens product, sorry no number)

I found a, "Roman Red" and a "Romany Red." Both are Chevrolet colors. Thanks for the opinion.

I don't know the proper name, but the purest red I ever saw on a car was what the owner told me was Porsche Red. May be the one Mike posted.

Yep. Roman Red was a '62 (& maybe '61) Chevrolet color.

A few years ago I bought a quart of vermillion acrylic enamel red from NAPA. They sell Martin Senor paints. I still have the can.
The color formula number on the can is 99N8021.
Perhaps they can still mix it for you. It is the color of the wheels in my avatar pic.

I have Roman Red on my 62 chevy II in my avatar. It would probably look better if someone competent had sprayed it on (instead of me), but the color itself is ok. It's not the reddest red there is, though.

Same here. Never was too horny for the red red's. Now the maroon's etc, that's a different story. Honduras Maroon (also from '62 Chevy btw) being at the top for a classic "dark red".

I've seen Dana red next to cars that I thought were red, blows them away IMHO.

Seriousley tho, I like dark reds and maroons but if I had to pick a red red it would be the blood red on the Prufer built 32 that 3wLarry owned. PM Larry?

It depends a lot on the color and what it's made of. If it's red rope licorice, I believe the standard length is 34 inches.

  25. My red might not be your red. Go to a few car dealers and see what you like since it is impossible to select from just a chip.

  28. 20 years ago, it was either Torch Red, (GM) or Guards Red! (Porsche) In my mind maroon is not red.
