Here is my idea. for a larger headlight (see #1) use a larger headlight****embly like off an older model a model t diamond t or something with a bigger headlight. Graft the headlight bucket into the fender. if you wanted to change the look of the light a little maybe graft in a fender opening like off of a 55-57 chevy truck(see #2) As far as the cow catcher bumper i say graft in a caddy big bullet style bumper. its too flat so make it more round. possibly right above the license plate hole on the cow bumper. (see #s 3 & 4)and finally add a frenched in emblem from a mid to late 50s chevy /gmc truck(see # 5). if my photochiopping skills were up to it id try to give it a go. but i dont have a good program to try. I'd also like to thank any owners of the trucks i used in these pics i do not claim to have any ownership or right of them. trying to stay legal. :) i Hope this has helped some [IMG]

If that truck were mine, I'd lose the bumper, mirrors and those step/faring things on the sides. Too modern looking for me......
Id find some stock type bumpers, widen them and stack 2 on the front. Old tow trucks had those and they look pretty good.

Make the grill bars go almost to the ground by cutting apart the bumper. That'll help. Definitely 4 headlights too.

  6. Yea. I think it needs 4 headlights, but there is so much space to fill I'm wondering if even stock dual headlights can do the job. Maybe go with regular 7" high/lows mounted like other factory dual headlights with something period correct for turn/markers. I like the idea of stacked commercial bumpers if they were stacked with a reverse rake and maybe a roll pan to tuck the lower corners in a little?
The sides are a real puzzle? I haven't seen it in person yet but I think those may be fuel tanks with skirts and steps. The story is "they can't change" but nothing is so*****ed up you can't throw it all away and start over. It's only $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

you would defiantly have to widen the commercial bumpers since the whole truck is wider now. but it could be done. some drastic metal fab and the cow catcher could be made to look like stacked commercials.

Maybe take a que to two from DoughBoy's build. Although closed on here, it lives on at http://doughboy1947.blogspot.com/. Check the June 16, 2014 post (currently at the top of the page). Neat idea on the front bumper.

As far as the headlights, my recommendation would be to take a pair of 9" headlights and work them into the near stock locations. Use the top edge and outside edge as reference, then build/mold them into the fender towards the inside and bottom. Actually, a 9" might be too big.

Just my opinion here, but quad lights on the front tie it into the late 50's early 60's and won't flow with the rest of the body. Kind of a Kustom touch or look that doesn't fit the rest of the build at all.

Agree that quad headlights may not work so well. Bigger single is what I think would work, and then put some turn signals (small round bullet type) to help fill the space. Not sure what to do with the bumper, it is just so big and flat. One big problem, is the whole cab and all that extra sheetmetal is just so high up. It needs to be lowered a lot, like a channel, even though the floor of the cab is still going to be way above the frame.

Any Pepto-Bismol salesmen need a traveling circus? This is not mine, I don't know the owner and have no affiliation with them. Considering what's here it was just too good not to share. Although I don't like it when people are trying to sell stuff in threads I thought you'd all enjoy seeing this...

  18. Thanks Daddio, all good comments. And thanks for the link, I was following the Ford build and was sad when it disappeared here. Some cool stuff going into that one.

  19. Yea, the hooded quads may be too far from the soft, round corners on the AD to fit in. I like the idea of changing the 7" lights to 9's and moving them a little further in and down to hold the curve of the fender. The whole thing is so high to the floor because of the chassis and drive train. It's going to be an over the road cattle hauler when it's done, the limo is turning into a sleeper. Still puzzling over the bumper.

  20. Might want to put an aluminum circle around each headlight like Mopar did on their trucks in the sixties. make them look bigger than they actually are.
Daddio, thanks for posting that Chevy. I really think people see color differently, what is overpowering to some make look just right to someone else. That truck has some things in common with my build, tandem, similar bed style, matching trailer. LOL I wish it wasn't quite so slab sided, but it is difficult trying to make modern materials match those nice big radii on the hood and fenders. Oh yeah, I do like the car hauling capability.

  21. I hadn't even thought of a Flxible. Those might work if you started the outside just around the front corner so you get the right stagger?

Personally I think those would look like buck teeth on a supermodel. They just don't flow with the rest of the build, but that's just my opinion.

If you wanted to go really outside of the box and follow the theme that the original builder started with then shave the headlights altogether and mount them Peterbilt (or even '32 higboy) style somewhere off the the grill. That would tend to follow the "big truck" theme that seems to been have set forth here. Matches the mirrors, the "ground effects", the steps, the 22.5" wheels, etc.

I think he needs to make a decision whether he wants to go in a hot rod or a big truck style and finish it through. Otherwise it'll look like a good idea poorly executed with high quality workmanship. Kind of like a high end car with a bunch of stick-on/bolt-on doo dads. Again, just my opinion.

  23. Yea, he leans toward the hotrod side of life, or used to. Are you thinking the old "ant eater" Petes or the present day stuff that I think uses a stand off, like a classic '32 highboy (which you mentioned)?
Got time for a sketch? I'm envisioning completely changing the front of the fender contour to a pre '47 bulb to allow the headlights to float outside the sides of the grill?

Fan Attic, I'll see if I can throw something together.

In the meantime feast on Jeff Allison's cool sketch of a highboy-ish roadster COE! 1405200430409.jpg
