Well, I visited my 84 year old Mother In Law last night and we had supper together along with wifey Patricia. She always enjoys looking at new pictures of Gene's Moonlighter on my phone. Her family had a 1937 Chevy Coupe when she was a girl, and she still has pictures of herself with that car. She has always loved the style of that car, and commented that of the Gassers at the Knoxville race, she liked the Moonlighter, The Alley Cat, and Quains' Grand Illusion best. They remind her the most of her old family car when she was growing up. She also commented that Gene has a really nice looking family.

Yes he has and I so glad he did. Gene and his family has enjoyed the Moonlighter so much this year. He's got a long trip ahead next week to Bryon Ill with 7 more Southeast Gassers for a North vs. South shoot out. Thank's to all the HAMB members and the Melt Down Drags guy's and Gals for the donations that has made it possible for Gene and Melvin to make the trip.

Yeah, I've been reading the Meltdown thread, and it looks like it's going to be a ball. Hope y'all have a nice safe trip, and a nice time up there. Put a few of those old Yankee cars back on the trailer for all us Southern folks.
Wish I had deeper pockets right now to help y'all out with the expenses. If Publishers Clearing House shows up here with a bunch of balloons, I'll fly up there and give y'all a big fat check for expenses ... I promise.

The Meltdown Drags looks like a lot of fun, but it's just to far for me. I'm sure everyone will have a great time and I hope they make lots of videos and pictures.

Frank we are taking our own video guy just to make sure to get video. Dylan Horton is riding up with Donovan and will be videoing the north vs south shoot out, in car camera and all.

Does anyone know if the "North Vs. South" Gassers at the Meltdown will be running 1/8 or 1/4 mile? The Southeastern Gasser guys have those engines sounding pretty tightly wound at the 1/8 mile traps. I haven't counted their gear changes ... maybe they were in 3rd gear ... if not, they may need a rear gear change to keep the magic smoke inside at the 1/4 mile distance, if that's the distance they will be running.

The Meltdown is a 1/4 mile. I'm anxious to see what the Moonlighter will do in a 1/4 she seems to be pulling hard on top end in the 1/8. I'm hoping for 10's with the 427, he used to run in the 9's with the 468.

I bet he hits 9.90's in the quarter with just the spare parts 427 if the air density and track surface are decent.
He probably won't have the horsepower of the old 468 stroker, but I bet the newer better biting tires make up the e.t. difference. I guess we will find out for sure in a few days.

That's pretty much the way I see it, better track and tires. Gene and Melvin made some changes that should help out (I even helped a little). The converter has more stall now and we changed the advance weights in the magneto.

We are going to be running 1/4 mile so the South will be a little off because we are all tuned up for the 1/8.
Everybody has made it here safe and sound today and getting rested up for tomorrow. We have 8 cars from each side and we are going to do battle like this.Every run will be a north vs south car. 2 rounds Friday at 3 and 6, then 1 round Saturday at 4. Then we will add the wins from each side, the side with the most wins will have the highest score and be the overall winner. If a tie the fastest car from each group will run 1 race for a tie breaker.

Gene won first round with a 9.96 @ 1.24 .81 mph. He said he quit a little early and you can tell because the mph is off a little. I ask him about his first 1/4 mile pass in over 40 years, he said the track seems longer than it was back then, with a big grin. After first round the south is leading 6 to 2. We have one more round today and 1 tomorrow at 4. I can't tell y'all how Cool this is watching Gene do this.

There ya' go !! 9.90's on an early shutoff, and he won to boot !! Looks like the old gal may even have a 9.80 in her this weekend. Can't wait to see what the new "good" motor will do. The cool weather is probably helping times up there. I'm sure you are proud as punch of Gene, the rest of us sure are. Have fun, and turn the win lights on some more of those old Yankee Gassers for us.
