That's still the good old GM pattern.

If it were a V6, it would have the Ford pattern.

The easiest way to discern the two patterns is to just look at them. No camera required.

Look at the 4 bolt holes that are used to attach the transmission to the bell housing.

On the GM pattern, the TOP two are closer together than the bottom two.

On the Ford patten, the BOTTOM two are closer together that the top two.

GM has always run the parts bins out empty, as have most OEM's. There has been a long history of bleed-over on parts. It's not common enough to call it a rule, or to depend on it.*

*Unless, of course, you are me. I am always stuck with the half-year-only, or first 3 or last two months of production part, that is invariably unique, can't be substituted for, is unavailable, and, of course, broken.

May be old news but apparently there are two different S10 shifters.

Funny you're showing that, it ressemble something I proposed to my ex shop manager (who ended up fired) on some other transmission and his answer was that it was an absolut idiotic idea... Glad to see I'm not crazy.

I'm using a Hurst shifter with a round shift knob embossed with a five speed shift pattern.
Thank you Ernie for a real informative post.

I have a Chevrolet big truck shift lever, shortened and flattened to bolt to a Hurst shifter. I topped it with a Lokar ivory ball, which matches my Falcon's knobs. Looks stock.

I have an s10 world class trans with chevy bolt pattern and tag #1352-234. I can not find the ratios on the site I usually use. Are there any other sites or has anyone else had this tag #? Below is a link to the web site I have been using.

    Ok heres a question.

I got a T5 apparently from a Mustang. I want to use the trans behind the 292 for my 54 Ford Customline.
I need to determine witch gearset is in it.
The casting number on the bellhousing is; E6ZR 6394 AA. Which tells me 86-99 5.0.
On the trans there are 2 casting numbers. One on the main case and one on the tail shaft housing.
On the main case it is; 13 52 065 921
On the tailshaft case it is; 13 52 066 939
The counter gear bearing is the Timpken Bearing

Im hoping this trans is a WC T5 for 91-98 Ford.

I could sure use some clarification

You can tell if it is WC by looking at the front, they are slightly different. Also, it is not that difficult to check the gear ratios by marking the input and output shafts and counting the turns in each gear. It will get you close. Don't think any of the casting numbers will do you any good, need the transmission tag numbers and then it is hard to tell if it is the correct tag for the transmissions as they are easy to change and/or lose!

Unfortunatly the trans does not have the tag ID on it.

For WC ID see post #272. Without the tag the only way to determine gear ratios is to manually check them. You can get a rough idea turning the shafts and figuring out the relative positions for one full turn of one shaft to the other. Or, if you know how to take them apart, count the teeth on the gears. That's about it, but I think for most applications counting shaft revelations should be close enough.

Most of you are trying to move the shifter forward, but I once had to move the shifter on a T-5 back several inches. I used piece of a Mazda RX7 shifter and an old u-joint socket. I just extended the shift rod out the back of the shift housing and connected it to the Mazda shifter with a homemade clevis. I left the shift detents in the box.

Boy I wish I had found this thread before I bought my T5 earlier today. I thought the bolt pattern looked different but didnt think too much about it, turns out its a WC 93 that has the ford bolt pattern on it and will not work for what I want :( Thanks for this thread. I am now armed with all the knowledge I need to find the right one. I always seem to learn these lessons the expensive way. One day I will learn to do all my research BEFORE I buy a part :D

Wilcap makes an adapter that adapts it to the Chev pattern.I have that same T5 and used their adapter.

Duece Lover, are you refering to there adaptor #350-FT5 that goes from Muncie bolt pattern to ford v8 T5? Does this allow you to run any gm bell housing?

  27. Deuce Lover I would like to know also, I have WC out of a '89 Mustang. My next question is, can I put a early '80's s-10 tail shaft with mechanical speedo on this tranny to move the shifter up and then do the needed changes to be able to use a mech speedo? Will be using a early chevy truck bell housing on my 283. Also the "British V8 T-5 ID list" list it as a "Ford 1989 SVO Mustang WC (After Market)" Anyone on what the "After Market" means?

Here is what I have.In my 36 Ford coupe I had a Flathead mated to the T5 with a Speedway adapter.I have since pulled the flathead and replaced it with a 350 Chev.I had to use a Cragar SBC adapter to the Speedway T5 to flathead so I would not have to redo the clutch linkage. The Speedway T5 adapter has the Chev pattern. The T5 I bought is a WC 93 GMC (26 spline input)which has the Ford pattern which I did not know but it was to late. The company in Texas that I bought the T5 from did the tailshaft modification cause I needed the shifter further forward.I have the mechanical speedo setup. You can plainly see the Wilcap adapter in the pic.Its pretty thick but machined so the T5 is only set back 1/2".That Wilcap adapter cost me around $300 at the time.Hope this helps you guys .My email is(deuceconnection@yahoo.com) if you want to email directly.I am in Hawaii.

Oldspeed, I don't know the differences in the GM bellhousings. The problem I ran into when I went with the SBC was the pilot bushing.I had to have a longer one made as the input shaft only caught about 1/2" and that was the longer one Speedway sells.Take careful measurements after you have chosen the bellhousing.

Ernie, Thank you very much for posting that info. Lots of much appreciated work.
QUESTION: How do I print it out without all that "FONT" stuff.
    Thanks, JIM
