One fog light on one side kinda reminds me of the beach chicks with the one flower behind one ear and not the other. With the ladies and their flower it's cool, on a hot rod it's uhhh.... But hey, beauty's in the eye of the beerholder.
I'll be adding a set of clears from a 63 Gran Prix Posted using Full box of Crayons on the Kitchen Walls App!
I always heard the single fog light was a California thing.. something about there being a ton of fog all the time. As useless as the fog light is here in Brisbane, where the only fog we get is early morning and its highly unlikely i'd be driving the roadster in it.. its there because i'm emulating what i suppose would be pretty close to a "california" look, or my interpretation of it anyway. Still.. i'd probably just run the yellow light as an accessory light when driving at night. I also have a red emergency light that i may use some day.. i've never seen another in Aus so just hangin onto that for now. I figured a red and yellow light on the roadster would be a bit much though..
When I built the Sr dragster there was a lot of opposition at the local track to the car. Mainly because it was a six cylinder and I had previously built a six for the late Bob Gauley (300 Ford six) who cleaned up regularly on the MEGA$ crowd. I was told by several who worked at the track I was not going to be allowed to run test and tunes because I had no mufflers (neither did they on their $40,000 REDs) and of course no car would be allowed to run after 8 PM without lights which I wouldn't have on a rail. And so when I built the car I installed slots in the collector extensions that worked much like a gun silencer does and underneath the gas tank on each side I installed a set of fog lamps. The switch on the dash was in German and said "nacht rennen" (Night running) but no one noticed till one night at about 8.00 I pulled to the top of the staging lanes after being ignored for almost too long and swung onto the track. The starter, a donkey, and friends with those who didn't want me racing with their v8s came over with an ignorant grin and said "I am sorry, you cant run now. Its 1 minute after 8 and you have no lights" Without a word I reached up and flicked on the fog lamps and looked up and grinned. It was probably the last time I raced there as I have grown weary of their nonsense but the look on his and his pals faces who were watching from the sidelines was priceless.
Those lights look like big rig driving lights, not fog lights. Some of those original lights on Model As aren't so great and would think he put the driving light on to see better.
I'm running with one fog light on my coupe. We don't have to many occasions when it's foggy in the Tampa Bay area.
I restored these Appletons and will wire them to use as turn indicators. I don't think people are seeing the small indicators above the headlights.
