Hi, all! Just wanted to share pics of my 1955 Mainline. I looked for a long time for a plain jane Mainline or Customline. Found this in Minneapolis, around an hour from me. Former owner installed a posi 9 in, and a 460. Its fun to drive, and i love to tinker with it.
Are those I-6 emblems on the fenders??? lol that has to be a wake up call when you hear that 460 fire up!
Hey danman55, yea the fenders, and glove box indicate I6, LOL. It has a very healthy 460 with early 70's heads, comp cam and flowmaster mufflers that dump right in front of the rear end. Definatly has a mean sound! I really love the car!! I used to dirt track race small block Ford Windsor strokers, and had to quit about 10 years ago before I had to resort to living in a cardboard box from the cost of racing. My dad builds Rods and just got done with a 57 ranch wagon with a 428...One ride in that and I was hooked and knew I had to get an old ford to play with. I have always love 55 and 56 ford Customline and Mainlines. I looked at lots of cars, its far from perfect, but with the history of the car, one look at it and I knew I had to have it. I have spent hours reading this forum while searching for a car that was in my price range, and wanted to say thanks to all who have posted all the info.
Great looking start...I wish mine looked half that good when I started. I'd loves to see pics of your Dad's '57 Ranchwagon...is he on the '57fordsforever forum?
Here are pictures of the engine when i got it home. I have cleaned it up some since then and will add some more pics soon.
Love the wagon, thanks for posting the pics, but I wanted to apologize for calling your car "a great start"..I reread my post this morning and wondered if I had been working out in the sun too long. That's a great car..period. Excellent find you made.
No worries, I'm more of a mechanical go fast guy than a body man, i looked at several double the price of this that probably has nicer paint and body at the 2 foot range, but had rust bubbles, waves, that would need attention soon. Except for the primer on the hood (primer added when the louvers were punched) it has not had body work for 25 plus years, its got the usual floor brace decay, but other than that its a solid old girl. That is quite a 57 you have wow!
Thanks..been a looong slow project.....about 8 years now, but I think another 1 1/2 years or so and it should be done. I'm proud of it so far, as no one has touched it but me, and this is my very first(and probably last) build. I retired a few years ago, and my wife very nicely redid here honey-do list down to one item..'REBUILD THE HOUSE', so that's where most of my time goes.
Added a couple photos of my car that a photographer friend took for me, I have a few posted in my media page
