  1. So are you thinking round off the fenders and run these?

  2. Yea, I'd appreciate more of a description. I don't know what the metal shaping capability at the shop he has the truck in is, but grafting the noses off a pair of 1946 GMC heavy truck fenders should be pretty easy once you get the cut located so the arc transitions are subtle enough to make it look right in all 3 axis'.
That sketch is a real though provoker too.

Hey Cholly. Truck looks great all painted. Like the white with red scheme. Good job. Look forward to seeing it in person when you get a chance to swing by the shop. I have spare visor like the one I have on my COE if your interested.

  8. That certainly fills up some space. Kind of one of those "Love it" or "Hate it" combinations. I'll see what my friend thinks. Thanks for the picture Baron!

Here's my 54 Chevy COE I purchased a while back. We finally got it home and am just searching for parts and planning out the build at this point. The plan is to use a 24v 5.9****mins with an Allison 1000 transmission behind the cab, air ride, and a wedge bed of some sort. I have toyed with the idea of making it a stretch cab, but I think I'll just leave it alone for now and fix all the rust issues it has. I'm leaving the 54 grill, but have considered going with the 47-53 windshield. It'll definitely be getting a visor. It is currently sitting on a mid 80's P-30 chassis. I'm going to have to get the engine and trans in and then go weigh it so I can figure out where to position the rear axle. I may need a tag as well as I plan to be able to haul a crew cab long bed pick up or even an old farm tractor. I'd like to get the bed proportions right to where you can drop the suspension and pull a vehicle right on the bed. We'll see how it goes.

Just to let you know it is a fair amount of work to go from the 54 Windshield to the 47-53. I went the other way with a 51 pick up, and along with changing the top of the cab, you have to also do a lot of work in the cowl area and dash as both those areas are totally different. Personally, I like the looks of the 54-early 55 one piece windshields. Looks like a decent start for a cool project. Good luck with your build.

Baron, thanks. I figured I'd have to change the top of the cowl on up and over. I don't know if I'll do it though. It's kind of nice being different. I may leave it. I mean, once you jam a visor on there, the windshield kind of gets hidden a bit any way. I can spend all that work on another area. :)

Just a thought, if you like the two piece windshield I'm sure someone would swap cabs with you. The one piece curved glass ('54 only you probably know) seems to be more desirable.

Cholly was nice enough to stop by the shop today and show me his finished truck. We met a little over a year ago when he spotted my COE and stopped by the shop to check it out. He had his chassis at the time and was looking for a COE cab. I took him for a ride around the block in mine, and today, I took his truck for a ride around the block. Rides and drives perfect, the 454 has plenty of power, and the whole truck looks great. We took a ride to my house to get some pics of the two trucks together.
Here are a few shots taken today.

Fortunately the tornado was about 45 miles from here. All we got from it was a little rain. Thanks.

Hey Baron!! Great pics!! Thanks so much for taking the time for me on monday - to get the trucks together!!! John and I are heading to the national car show in Newport Vermont this Sunday - Hoping to win another trophy - but I think I'll have a lot of competition there. :) We'll see how it goes! :) :) :) I spent my day putting another 454 in my big lifted Chevy Suburban. Had a tough day as the motor mounts didn't fit - I guess we ordered the wrong ones. hahaha - No worries, I'll stop tomorrow and grab the right pair from Sanels. We did have a blast yesterday - as we got the engine running. It had been sitting for years - so we dropped the pan - check the clearances and it was perfect. The crank looked beautiful and the plastic gauge measured .002 :) :) :) We put a nice new high volume oil pump in it. And a new timing chain and all new other goodies distributer - carb- etc.. :) :) :)
should run really nice. I had a 6.5 Diesel engine it it from a hummer but it wound up having a cracked block / head. long sad story really - but I'm really starting to like these big block chevys! :)

Well have a good one friend!!! :) :) :) Hope to see you again this summer / fall. :)

It sure looks like a '54 to me. Engine looks to be an FE (mid 70's truck by the valve covers and 2 bbl) as well, which of course didn't come out until '58. Me thinks some swapping has been done. Nothing in that ad seems to be accurate. Sure would make a fun project though.

Boy there is a lot to read on this thread! I recently acquired a 1951 Mercury M5 COE. I have lots of ideas and I will start a separate build thread but I thought I would post some before pictures here.
