Event Coverage 2014 Pebble Beach Concours

  1. Gosh, PooPooBoy, I'm so sorry that I offended you and you unusually high degree of moral standards and ethics. You know nothing of my mind and how it operates. Though I do not wish to engage you in a pissing contest or to appear to be a braggart, my IQ was measured in school when I took the Stanford Binet test. I do not possess a simple mind. Frankly, if the occasional naughty word or unpleasant imagery bothers you, perhaps one of the knitting or stamp collecting boards might be better suited, for one as sensitive as you seem to be.
    Cheers, CLF

You interpreted that incorrectly. Cars built before WWII that weren't built by Ford don't really interest me.

Tom, did you shoot the other Isotta? The one described, I think, as a Victoria?

Tony, here is the other one of the pair of Rothchild Hispano-Suizas, taken at the start of the Tour on Thursday. It's the "short wheelbase" one!.... haha! DSC_0401.jpg . Is that the pair you are referring to?

Those are a little hard to judge from pictures. Would you say that they are truly handsome cars, or are they more Cruella de Ville? Who was the coachbuilder?

(if this worked) This is the car that Cabover and I painted. It was a genuine test of stamina and grit to make the lawn. It comes back to us in a week. Joseph Urban was an architect and stage designer. He was called upon to design a paint scheme that would accentuate (exaggerate?) the length of the car as well as it's low silhouette. We had some archived pictures to go by that scaled out to 10:1. Dan and I are most proud of the roof detail, something that we've yet to see on any of the other restored examples.

The coachbuilders, Dutch Darrin and Gino Fernandez, were featured this year with a large display. They ran into each other at a concours in Paris and formed the partnership in '23. Darrin, of course, moved to California later.

It all boils down to personal taste. I like a lot of the individual elements of the long wheelbase car, like the shape of the front fenders and the way the paint spear goes to the middle of the hood, really flows; that being said the whole is a bit over the top...but that's OK!

You be the judge, Tony! I'm guessing Mr. Rothchild liked to be noticed when he arrived at the bank or the party....and I believe that these vehicles helped him achieve that goal!

My personal taste gravitates toward the Delages at these events. The styling is somewhat restrained, they are rich in detail and but never quite go over the top in my judgement.

Awesome cars, the craftsmanship of these treasures need to be experienced in person to truly appreciate the labor and detail that goes into their construction/preservation. Thanks for posting these great pix!

Thanks for sharing the wonderful photos of some fantastic cars that some of us can only hope to see in person. Like 37Kid and a couple of others that event has been on my bucket list for a long time and your photos just raise that hope of being able to go some day.
Try as I might I just can't pick a favorite as too many flat spin my wheels.

  27. Thanks for sharing , my day is now complete.

  29. That Pininfarina 'best of show' is not a Tour de France, right? Stunning anyway, I'm curious as to it's provenance.
Hey Tom, any shots of the black one next door?
