Jerry French purchased this 390/4 speed new in '64 and I painted the candy blue, green and purple fade job for him shortly after, back in Kansas City where we had become friends in high school. He drove and showed it from '64 until he parked it in his garage in 1972 and it remained there until this year. Before rolling it out, he rebuilt every mechanical component. We drove it out to the desert outside of Phoenix, to shoot it a couple of nights ago. The paint held up pretty good! Very nice ride. I had a 1965 LTD. I owned it till 1976. In 1974 I gave Bill Graham and Barry Fey a ride to the airport the day after the CSN&Y concert at Royals Stadium, It was over 100 degrees and that car blew very cold air. Say hi to Jerry for me.

Wow, I love that car! Those evening shots are amazing. The color is great. Drive off the lot, wheels and tires, custom paint, and your cruising. Does he want to trade for a white one?

I still get amazed at how something like that gets left alone and undriven for so long. Especially the ol it ran when parked.

I have always had a soft spot for 64 Galaxies. I have had 2 of them. That car is beautiful. Gorgeous color. Wish I could paint like that.

Here's one from '66, plus some of the "garage" shots when he first dug it out. DSC_4843.jpg DSC_4851.jpg DSC_4897.jpg DSC_4905.jpg jerry\'s cars.jpg

My shop teacher in High School had a black one...just like that...390 4spd. He loaded us up one day for a science fair in a neighboring town...I still remember that ride and that was in 73. What a nice car.

Wow...very nice car. I remember seeing pics of a Blue 64 with a purple top from the Round up a couple years ago...think it might have been a Kansas car..maybe a Beatnicks member

Yeah, I've heard something like that too. Also, I can't remember his name, but there's a hot rod illustrator based in Paris that has a painting that is very similar to this car on his website.

No, I don't think so.... the dust must find a way in over the course of 42 years!

Jerry has been a lurker on HAMB for a while now, I just talked him into joining and participating...and then his computer died today! He'll be on sooner or later to explain stuff.

Very nice. I had a black 500 XL similar to this one while in high school and had the exact same wheels on the front only.

nice, clean car, only thing that could make it nicer is an al***ude adjustment.

My first new car was a 64 Galaxie 500 2-dr hardtop. It was "Silversmoke" w/black interior.
the motor was a 390 Police Intercepter (mechanical lifters) and 4-speed. Bought it new off the lot at Mission Ford in Kansas City, Kansas. Got it for $50 dollars over dealers invoice. Drove it straight to the muffler shop for a pair of gl***pacs and then proceeded to drive all night long (Sat night) mostly downtown Kansas City, Mo, looking at myself in the storefront windows as I drove by.....!

Oh the memories. My first car was a '64 2 dr. ht. with a 352 4 barrel and a cruise-0-matic trans. Bought it from my aunt and uncle in '78 who bought it new in '64. It was a beaute. Wimbledon white with two-tone blue interior, power steering, brakes, air and am-fm radio. Only had 52 thousand miles on it when I bought it and straight as a string. Drove it for a few months and then proceeded to take out the drivers door and quarter panel on a parked car. :-(

I love these 64s. I drove a 64 convertible in the early 80s right out of high school. Sold it before going into the Navy. I wish I would have tucked it away somewhere!
