Alright, got long bed out of a field. It's been sitting for bout 19 years. Very little cancer but lots of surface rust. The little six isn't froze but the tanks got to be cleaned. Bees made their home in the spark plug boots. After cleaning out the mud cocoons I spun the engine via bat to starter. To bad the po spent years trying to start it. It's a good trade rifle for truck.

So plans: first I want to thank Tim and Todd for the inspiration via "jake,". Tims LSR truck. They have done a fabulous job. I'm following Todd's directions on flipping the front, extending the rear y hangers. Hopefully I can find a good 292 to slap in. Thanks fellas!!

BRT that was a great thread on that salt flat truck. I'm dropping the rear of a 57 f100 could any of you guys link me to the extending y hangers thread?

Ha, ha...Tim I'm defiantly not in the same league as you are however if n when I get the 292 there's a local from tumalo ( outside bend) names jerry. Says he knows of you? I'll have him build it. Nothing fancy. Right now want to get te six running( been sittin for years...I've done all the minor smart stuff...rebuild carb, cleaned tank, new cap, rotor points plugs and plug wires. Almost fired this am but hindsight I should of blew out the gas lines will let ya know...oh there's a guy with a 292 in Sunriver it's got nice in tacked rams horns no tranny but a running block with 4v intake. 500.00 bucks.

Hey man looks great! I have a 61 f100 short bed step side. It came with a original 272 v8 and 3 speed manual transmission unfortunately the motor was stuck so I have a 351w and an automatic transmission to throw in there. Just to keep her crusin. But like I said looks great!

It's been awhile however it has taken time to find the right engine for this project...some have encouraged 390, 289, 351W, but I've held out for a 292..,glad I did cause I found it. In a 58 one ton duely. Not seized, or sitting and rotting.

Nice find Devan, I used to have one of those, but it was a 62' with a 292 and a granny gear box.
I see the Shoebox in the pic, he looks lonely.

Good lookin truck. I have a 61 short bed I'm working on. How much do you plan on lowering it? I put a Sid's 3" drop axle on the front with reverse eye monos and an axle flip with stock eye monos. I had to raise the steering box like Tim did on the LSR. Not too bad a job to do at all.

I am flipping the front axel and extending the shekels in the rear. Trying to get 6 to seven I. Front and five in the rear.

I'm not sure just flipping the front will get you there. My front set up probably dropped it about 6" with the 3" drop axle and the reverse eye monos . Maybe 7" at the most. How much are you extending the shackles? I have a set that I extended if your interested send me a PM. With the rear I dropped it about 7-8" doing the axle flip and stock eye monos. I had reverse eyes on the back but the back sat lower than the front and I wanted it to be level or a slight rake at ride height.

I was going to extend rear shackles 3.5 inch. Just enough to not hit bed. Flipping the front axel and removing some leafs. Rear too.

  23. When I moved the steering box on Tim's truck during the front end mod's, the biggest problem was the header configuration. Other than that, the angle of the steering wheel & column drop mods, as well as cleaning up the pass through the firewall were the only other tasks to address. Totally worth it for proper geometry though.

Okay it's been forever but driving around the 61 as a Daily driver I just enjoyed it to much to tear into it. However, stranger things have happened but a nut inside the carb musta come loose and got suck into the cylinder/s. After pulling the plugs and looking in each one I couldn't see the nut, however every time I started the engine it had a horrible knocking sound. So I know the nut is in there somewhere. I decided not to pull the head so I'm swapping the inline for a 292. I'm also going to flip the axel and raise the steering box etc.

Here's where I'm at so far. Going the inline out today.

Also pulled the grimy trams cause I'm gonna use it with the 292 which I found a bell housing for off a 57.

Also addressed the steering box issue with 61-64 f100s.
See by raising the box there be a clearance issue with the stock mechanical clutch. So you need to find a donor 57-60 hydraulic slave and master. The mounting is the same and it allows for clearance when the steering box is raised.
I'll have step by step pics when I tackle that. Now I've got to clean the grim and start on the axel.
