Ran across this cleaning my shop. Anyone have ideas as to what this car was? Even better what year was this show? The poster doesn't say. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1410015754.681989.jpg

  2. It's a mystery to me, but I'm tuned in to see if anyone else knows anything about it.

  3. Checking the web this showed up in a search,,seems the show was in 1967

There may be some more information here but I'm not interested in subscribing to the online newspaper.

    The Waco News-Tribune

  4. Jim Goodwin won 11 feet of trophies, is all I can make out on the above links
"Hou-Stone" search only shows the Waco newspaper listed above, Nov 13 and 14th.

  5. ^ Wow! That has to be the first AMX custom I've ever seen. Pretty slick.^

Why would a one off AMX be billed as "The Hou-Stone, a $10,000 pre historic hot rod"? Sounds more like an early Flintstones car.
That AMX was called the "Vignale AMX"

So how'd you find it was an AMX? I've tried searching as well, but I've always come up short.

And wow "silver cloud"....full custom Edsel? Someone was smoking some good stuff!

  9. I didn't say it was the Hou-Stone, that is the only vehicle that came up on a search.
I cannot find info on a Hou-Stone being used as a TV car or in any other car show except the one listed above and one a few months later in TX....and both times it was in a newspaper.

Got ya Rick, you did didn't post any reply with the pic so I assumed you were posting that in response to the title in the thread. I can't find a thing either on the Hou-Stone.

    Another shot of the AMX

Just saw this for sale on the HAMB. That's one ugly show car but the mystery's solved.
Why it was billed as a 'pre-historic hot rod' still doesn't make sense.

  14. Very cartoonish. The engine looks cool. But that is about it.

  15. What the hell was that cabinet/coffin/treehouse/hot rod builder maker smoking/sniffin/rubbing/drinking when he built that monstrosity ? That's gotta' be the ugliest damned thing I've ever seen here....as well.......my first statement of any kind calling anything such on this site. Logging off !

I just noticed the front plate on the car, "Formica", their logo from the 60s.

You don't think that thing is covered with Formica do you? If so it would explain the lack of any compound curves.

Engine would be cool, reverse cam flat head.

I just saw this "Formica" car on Craigslist in Houston last week. Noticed the reversed intake/exhaust but didn't know what to think about it. Was that worth any horsepower?

The car is very strange to say the least.

  18. it was found in pasadena a few weeks ago, it is the formica car, henceforth the name Hou-Stone, can see the panels lifting off the wood in the photos. Supposedly, the container this was found in had 7-8 show rods packed in it, so wild a friend of mine saw them 15 or more years ago, he thought it was a carnival ride shoved in there. Supposedly had an old corvair based chariot, an old wild trike, even an old FED hanging from the ceiling. craziest find ever, not just one weird car but 1/2 dozen or more!
