Had a talk with Jimmy "Redsled" Whitley today and things are moving along on his end, even though he has some serious mobility issues himself due to a bad hip. But he's stll hanging in there for us. Here's some things we talked about:
Jimmy says there should be no problem getting the big grill on wheels for us all to use. JUST BRING CHARCOAL"!!!!!
He and son Jamey are planning to use the same design as last year on this year's offer, just with date changes. Jimmy will be in here soon to show you what is offered, but I thinjk it's gonna be offered in black with gold letters and grey with gold letters. One Big change on T shirts that will happen this time is if you want T-shirt(s), then order and pay for them in advance. Jimmy will be on here soon to explain how to order and pay. Too many times has Jimmy wound up with surplus T-shirts after he was left holding the bag on left over T-shirts NO MORE!!!!! There will be no more "extras" ordered for late sales, as Jimmy keeps getting stuck with them.
Jimmy is no longer on city council, but it's a small town with few secrets. There are young, new cops on the force, anxious to look good to the chief, so be careful to obey all traffic laws.
If you plan to leave for home or to the motel you picked instead of camping with us, and you have stayed for our tailgate party and campfire circle, please arrange ahead of time for a designated driver who can p*** a test if need be. There are those who will be glad to help you.
Not exactly a pleasant subject, but it needs to be considered.
Just a few realities that need to be brought out, but all in all, it's about the most laid back, fun event I've ever attended.

I'm not in the picture but I made it out to Caffeine and Octane yesterday with the dragster.

Talked to a bunch of people and made sure to plug RWYB. I had literally 5-6 guys enter the date into their phones right there so fingers crossed. :D

Speedy as of yet we do not have a rain date. If the need arises the track owner will decide on the date. This is a fairly important event, especially with the scheduled reunion(s). Hopefully we will be blessed with a beautiful, overcast, dry day.

Way cool Tyler  Hopefully we will have the best turnout yet.

Thanks Scot. I was hoping it would be the next day on Sunday. Since we will already be down there.

Dang! Ya know Speedy, I've never even given a raindate a thought! Shows I'm no race promoter, I guess! Gotta call Ed Swearingen to ask him about a phone number and his permission to get a porta john at our usual campsite, and I'll ask him about raindates. Sure understand, as far as you're driving.

Thanks Dave. Just that with the drive, I have. And the Lodging , gas & food cost. That adds up fast. And a rain date, if you are going to have one, would be good to know. I might still lose my room cost, if they won't reschedule. But thanks for thinking about it.

Re the rain date: Called Ed Swearingen just now and he was standing in line to get his lunch at the Ft. Wayne Restaurant, Convenience store and Hotel in downtown Reynolds.. Told me that he agreed that a rain date of the folowing day, Sunday 11/9/14 made a lot of sense if no other activity conflicted. He said that when he got thru eating he'd go check the schedule and get back to me, hopefully this afternoon.
For other good news, when I asked him if it would be OK if I ordered a Jiffy Johnny and had it placed in or near our campsite area, he said no need for me to order one, that the track owned 10 of them and he'd see to it that one was placed in our ususal area.
Will report rain date news later when I get back home this evening if I have heard back from Ed.

Sounds like a plan Dave. I just hope he takes into account in which direction the wind is blowin' I'd hate to have to swat fruit flies and gnats  :D

Looks like the WR Dragway reunion will have hats and possibly shirts made up for their event.

I'd think so Dave, but luckily my neck of the woods is 99% of the time gnat free. If I drive 10 miles south to my shop down in Haynesville it's a different story.

:D :D You bringing that bear with you Bobby? :D I might have a helmet for him if you do. :D :D

I usually just cut a hole in my pants to keep 'em out of my face :D :D That's for the gnats. As for mosquitoes, any kind of Cutter or Off product works well. Our far will usually keep the mosquitoes at bay at night.

The little basrards like me also, and I use "OFF" or what ever I can find with the highest percentage of DEET in the ingredient list.. Oddly enough mosquitos don't much like me, but the gnats will drive me nuts if I don't use something. Seems like they oughta be gone by Nov. though.
Bobby, how'd you do last weekend?
