I was waiting for the primer-ratrod police to pick on you. But after you shared your pic in post 17, I think just finish the whole car in BLACK.
Maybe chrome just grille insert, body looks pretty much ready to paint.
BLACK will never go outa style & that car & chop is SICK.

  7. I remember back in the early 80's the recreation of the '32 sedan Eastwood & Barakat build and although the grill was white the rails were orange and the body was red primer,I think it made for a good clean hot rod look.

Should give you a idea how well the orange insert would be a good contrast. HRP eastwood-barakat.jpg

  8. BTW,I have always been a guy that's likes red primer, hence the moniker HOTRODPRIMER! :D HRP

  9. While not a cool hot rod like yours, I like the red oxide with a sort of off white. This is stuff we got from the hardware store, its called biscuit. We car going to paint the roof the same color this weekend. The pictures actually makes it look more white than it is. I think your grill with matching wheels would look good this color. Black primer body, red oxide grille.. \'32 Sedan #2.jpg

  15. Interesting response, the OP never ask what color to paint the car, that decision was already made. HRP

  16. Correct he did not. My response Mr. HRP was gloss black grill for his oxide paint.
When did I mention anything about body color to him?

  17. Excuse me,as I was reading I assumed you were replying to the previous poster..Gloss black..you omitted grill.

    No offense intended. HRP

  18. No worries, didn't want you to think i would change it, I really dig that color he chose. I think a glossy black would look great on it and would go with his frame and such. :)

I just imagined doing a primer red car, and I could only think of gloss black or gloss yellow or gloss brown.... but in my head, I imagined a car with steel wheels painted to match.
Might have been easier to imagine other colors, if the car was a gray or black primer.

Try borrowing a paint chip set from Home Depot or other paint store, and hold the chips up to the car??

Grey lacquer primer. Then when it starts to get chipped, you can wipe it off with lacquer thinner and redo it.

  23. I like charcoal grey.....
