Bob, is that chain drive as noisy as I imagine it is?

Chain noise was non-existent on the one that I drove. Only badly worn, and unlubricated chains make noise.

Apart from a badge-engineered Salmson they also offered, Bignans were 2-litre medium-sized cars in the Ballot/Lagonda/OM mould and bigger. Not that I'm complaining.

My love for the extreme reaches of the automotive size spectrum notwithstanding, this is a category of car I find very appealing. It's like 3-series BMWs subject to a Vintage design ethic.

George Thomas 1928-2013, a founding member of the Phillip Island Auto Racing Club (PIARC) and was awarded life membership for his service. With his interest in both motor sports and photography, he became a semi-professional photographer active at Victorian motor sports events in the 1940's and 1950's.

ps I contacted the State Library thinking this was a 'Beeza' - despite:
" Notes: Handwritten note in photographer's book for H2014.115/10: B.W.A. 2nd fastest time for day. H2014.115/12 published in "A history of Rob Roy Hillclimb 1937-1961 : the hill, the drivers, the cars" by Leon Sims, pg. 46. Caption names driver as Julian Barrett, with Ernie Seeliger as ballast."
Library since advising it was in fact the work of Barrett, John White and Alan Ashton, hence BWA.
It's worth looking up the other image mentioned, on the Library's site, without 'ballast'.

It’s no Aztec GT (more of a bubble-top beetle), but it does share the simple flip-top design — still, it doesn’t look very easy to get in and out of. This was built in the early fifties by German mechanic Gustav Weinert. At only 770 pounds, even with only a motorcycle driveline it must have been a lot of fun to drive.

Here is some more information to add to post #6053 and Bill Lowe's Lombard... Bill Lowe bought car new when it was unsupercharged. He drove in the Australian Grand Prix 1929-34.His best showing was a third place in 1929.In 1930 he added the supercharger.Other than the rear axle, supercharger, 1966832_740296809339968_8093917019708916006_n.jpg carb, and some cosmetic items, the car remains largely original. From the Lomaberd Register via
