Chip, you may have already checked this. I ran across this doing some research on my OT ride.

Thanks JBurt. I machined up some for these wheels long ago at ElPolacko's shop, so I'm pretty sure they aren't the problem.

I actually had a local Wal Mart service center go over the front tires the other day, after meeting the service manager and finding him to be pretty damn cool. I'd say the issue is now about 90% gone again. They hop for a second of two at about 62 or 63 mph, but smooth back out and work as they should. I laughed when the car was in their shop, as all the young guys that were working a techs took turns sitting in the car and having the other workers snap pictures... After asking if they could, of course.

  6. Still trying to figure out how your glass made it out of the frame, Chip. Sounds like maybe it was cut a hair under sized? I've had a hinge break going over a railroad crossing, but never even contemplated the glass coming out of the frame. I would have thought that was darned near imposssible as well. Maybe it's like Robin and I, the darnedest things happen if we give voice to them. Couple of years ago she bought me a pair of Arnette sunglasses for Valentines day. I told her I really liked them, but was hessitant to spend that kind of money on sunglasses ever since I lost a pair of Oakleys in Dubai. Long story short, 2 years later at the mall one day she comments how impressed she is that I haven't lost, broken, or scratched (or any one of the other 100's of ways I seem to destroy sunglasses) these. Within an hour I had lost them (well, actually I'm pretty sure I left them on the counter as I carried our lunch to the table. I noticed they were missing and asked the guys behind the counter, but they claimed they hadn't seen them (and one of them acted suspiciously nervous and disappeared right after that). So you see, it was all Judy's fault! ;)

Yup, it was cut just a hair shy of what it should have been. also let the glass shop talk me into using glass setting channel instead of Urethane or Silicone, and proved to be it's undoing.

  8. Hey, that reminds me (Look, a rabbit!). This is a little off topic, but does anyone know of something that will disolve / loosen silicone sealant without damaging the paint underneath? The idiots who painted my Chevy II (prior to my ownership), siliconed every piece of trim to the car in a misguided attempt to keep water from getting under them and causing rust. This works fine when it's fresh, but 5-10 years down the raod, and all it does is trap water under the trim and cause rust! The big stuff (like headlights ant taillights I'm not too worried about, but the window trim and some of the more unobtanium SS trim items worry me.

Chip, I really gotta thank you for posting that article on T bucket top proportions, and everyone else who gave me some constructive criticism. I re-thought my top...again... for the 4th time haha. I mocked up a windshield frame chopped 4" from what I had, cut 2" out of the main and middle top bows, and rearranged the angles a bit. Forgot to mention stretched out another 2 rolls of tape! Anyway, behold tape top Rev. D!

Nice proportions on the top. You can see out the sides...toward approaching vehicles! Good Idea-r!

Like the look of your top now. That's what I did before I had the top made but I used white plastic.

I too installed the top on my roadster the other day for the first time after the rebuild and installation of the Cad. engine. It needs a little tare repair after a drive in windstorm which will mean the sides will be about an inch lower. I think that will improve the look.

Holy Bajeebus!!! I dig that a lot now! I absolutely love how the sides are level to the cockpit sides. That's a detail most seem to miss with a chopped windshield. NICE!!!

Thanks for the positive remarks, guys. I can truly say that without your help, I would have been stuck with Rev. A, not knowing what to do about it. I've had a giddy smile on my face most of today, all because of $6 worth of conduit and $10 worth of tape. It's the little things in life...

I've been mocking up a conduit frame folding top for my car, now I know what to aim for. Your top is beautiful.

Thanks, If you go several pages back, Chip posted an old article on T bucket top fabrication. If you follow those proportions suggested, you'll be golden. Another top which hasn't been mentioned yet I don't think is Clayton's (MrModelT) top. That thing looks fantastic, and I believe it is also a conduit top with boat fittings.

Okay this was my model. But then again '50s stuff. I used the aluminum boat stuff. Kicking around putting the wood on the front bow but then wondering if it would be too much. Norm was really into wood.

If it was mine (which admittedly it isn't) I think I'd make the bows black to disappear them as much as possible when the top is up. The bows on my coupster are also bright metal and stick out visually far more than I want them to. A little Krylon semi-flat black should do the trick. Just my $.02.
