Hey fellas, I just heard the unfortunate news that Bob McCoy passed away last night. I had the pleasure to meet him at the LA Roadster show a few years back. Rest In Peace Bob...
I never knew mr McCoy but I chatted with him a few times at good guys shows when I bought some of his "on sale prints " .. I honestly felt he treated me the same as he would a guy spending big $$ , I told him I really enjoyed his art and thanked him for bringing stuff for us "budget guys "could also purchase ....he says Absoulutly!... Would you like me to sign it? Seemed like a real class act guy, no "artist attitude" whatsoever! Seems the man was multi-talented and able to live a pretty full life on his own terms!....world has lost another great... Vaya con dios Bob
The picture off him hanging out the driver's window of his flamed '40 with that big grin on his face will forever be my lasting image of Bob McCoy. RIP Bob Frank
Another good one gone. One of my old club members in BC bought Bob's pickup a few years back. Bob's 40 2-door was THE ultimate 40. Happy trails Bob.
Rest in Peace Bob. Will cherish your 40 pickup even more now. We will miss you and your amazing art. You were a true renaissance man. Hope the cruzin is good up there. Sincere condolences to Lynn. A huge loss!
Had a booth beside him from time to time at different shows. He was always a delight to visit with. He'll be missed.
I met Bob briefly during my short and unsuccessful sprint car career...remember him slow-rolling at Ascot, got out like nothing happened...he was indeed a great sprint car driver, artist and hot rodder...RIP
I got to meet him a few times when I lived in San Diego. Here are some photos I shot of his roadster at a local car show there in 2005. He was the real deal and will be missed.
Two of my heros gone, Bob and Tom Medley. Knew Bob for about 30 years, built my '40 sedan because of Bob's. Like Tom, a great guy with a million stories. I, too, have a bunch of his art (as well as his book) to remind me of our friendship. Condolences to Lynn and family.
I met Bob a few times and he was always the nicest guy, had some great conversations. I have many trophies that my cars have won over the years, but there is only ONE that is in the house. It is a large 3D painting that Bob did and awarded to me at a show a few years back. It is the Bob McCoy "Real Hot Rod' award and it hangs proudly in my game room! Goodspeed Bob
I was fortunate to meet Bob at a GoodGuys Del Mar show. He pinstriped my RPU when his good friend Paul Bos built it. Here is some of his work. R.I.P. Bob!
296. Yep, most folks don't know that Bob had a U.S.A.C. sprint car feature win on his resume. He was never the kind of guy to mention it, but those who were there, especially C.R.A. fans will.
Man another hero bites the dust. Met him at Pomona in the 80s, bought a print and not only signed it but personalized it special too. Didn't know this hick from NH from a hole in the ground but treated me like an old friend. May the roads in heaven be smooth and all the lights green. Vaya con dios, Bob, you were an original!
