so i started getting my project cleaned up since it was dropped off 4 days(who's counting) It was missing a battery so i dropped one in it. Had a remote start switch on the positive terminal, so i tried to start the car. Mind you it's been sitting for over 20 years. BTW ignition key is missing. So she cranks but won't start. My question to the expert is....i noticed the ignition is a 2 wire switch, but does anyone one know how many positions it is? 2,3,4? I'm thinking of buying a replacment. But in the meantime- If i jump the wiring , any adverse effects?
2 Wires on the ignition? Do you have a circuit tester? Should be 12 volts on one side, nothing on the other, until you turn the switch on. Then you have 12 volts on the other as well. That should turn the ignition on. Then the starter button cranks it over. Sounds like someone cobbled it up to work without a proper ignition switch.
4 wires: 1. hot wire "IN", powers the rest. 2. Ignition out 3. Accessory out 4. Start (cranking circuit)
If you pull the switch out and take it to a good locksmith they can usualy make you a new key, Good luck with your project, Gary
