So, I've got formal coverage with real photography of The Race Of Gentlemen coming later this week... But I've been in the darkroom all morning making prints for personal use and thought I would post some of my outtakes. This stuff isn't brilliant by any means, but I thought it was fun to see imagery of the event from a camera and lens (Leica screw mount) made during the same period that this race emulates.

But like I said, REAL coverage (& photos) comes later this week.

Note all the missed focus shots... Manual focus and fast moving cars make things tough and give me so much appreciation for the guys that used to do this.

And one more... Cuz I just can't help myself.

Miller wanted to pull one over on security, sneak into the pits, and get a picture next to his favorite car. Who was I to use better judgement? Of course, his criminal mind isn't quite up to speed as of yet... So we were caught rather expeditiously... BUT, not before we got the shot!

Andrew Kohler's car (roadster with Miller in front of it, photo above) is by far my favorite from this event. After seeing hundreds of photos of the event over the weekend, I just can't get enough of that car!

Good shots, Ryan... I dig the B&W.

One of the faster cars at the event too... Very well made and while I only talked to owner for a second, he seemed like a really cool guy.

Always amazes me how B&W imagery changes the whole perspective. A couple of those shots could be right out of 1947. Good job man.

Did someone here on the HAMB build the #67 Coupe?

I've been looking for more pictures and info about it..... Love it.

From all that I've heard and read, (mid-century modern) Wildwood New Jersey was the best place on the planet to be last weekend. These shots with this vintage camera makes these machines in this location look superb and confirms this.

I really love the black & white shots Boss, they capture the look and feel of a different era, simple yet so pleasing to the eye.

Thank you for your perspective from behind a lens.

This has me thinking about dusting off my old 35mm Nikon camera. HRP

the event was a once in a lifetime kind of deal. it was simply amazing to not only be there, but to be chosen to race. We scrambled weeks before to get an engine ready and back in the coupe.. It was worth all the hard work and effort. There were thousands of people there.. photographers were shooting all day long all weekend,... The Oilers CC are some very genuine guys. They all were great to stand around and shoot the **** with.. Mel was his crazy old self and kept the entertainment going, elrod was bombing around in the roadster helping out. He was great to meet in person and extremely nice to talk to...
overall, this event was an unforgettable gathering of hot rods and some of the most laid back group of racers from all over the country..

So I'm sitting in this restaurant in Wildwood having a late dinner and this guy walks up to me with this cute little kid and says " hey man, I like your hat". I was wearing the ever popular Jalopy Journal "trucker" cap. I look up and it's none other than the elusive Ryan. There were Ryan sightings at TRJ show just the weekend before and I had actually seen him trudging around taking pictures there but the opportunity to say hi never presented itself. It was good to meet you Ryan. I hope you and Miller had a good trip.
