Hello all, I've seen many independent SPI threads and house of kolor threads, but never any comparing specifically the 2. I am painting a couple cars that will be show quality and although I love ppg 2021 and 2042 I want to venture with something new. I am looking into the Hok usc01 urethane show clear and the SPI universal clear. Only real obvious benefit I see is the SPI is 2 gal sprayable and Hok is 3:1:1. Any pros compared the 2 in longevity and durability? I am wanting the best depth possible on the solid colors I will be using and Hok says its good up to 15mil build watching between flash times. Not that I will build it that thick, but that seems pretty nice if the desire to do so was there. Thanks
How does this help- respectfully telling him an intro is expected is one thing but calling him names does not help anyone and possibly turns off a person who might otherwise contribute to this site.
I can't comment on hok but the spi universal clear that I shot on my chevy was great. Good people to deal with on the phone too
Hey sorry, I didn't know I was supposed to. Its cool to see some get the screen name and have a sense of humor LOL. Ive spoke with Jeff from SPI a few times and they are all very smart, which is extremely helpful. My locals i spoke with about Hok couldn't really say much other than its good enough for show cars. I may end getting the SPi, and see if the hype holds up.
HOK was known for using the best raw materials to make the best products. That was the whole premise behind Jon Kosmoski founding the company. He was very unhappy with the products paint companies came out with when they switched over from nitro to acrylic lacquer. Colors were muddy, toners not strong and clear. I know for a fact, the products are a**** the best I've ever used, the Candies are the clearest, cleanest colors since nitro lacquer candy. I've got several, almost 30 year old, candy uro jobs out there that still look good. Unless Valspar has seriously changes the formulas in the last year, it is still the best.
