    Lets see some pictures of your sedanette! Theyre quickly becoming one of my favorite 40's/50's era car. Also, can you guys school me on the different models? I'm assuming that sedanette only applies to Buick? I've seen them called specials, or super sedanette. Whats the difference? Those of you that are familiar with the "sledanette",........positively drool worthy.

    To my knowledge, only Buick officially called this body style "Sedanet". Chevrolet, Pontiac , Oldsmobile and Cadillac all had their own official names.
    Common useage includes 'fastback', 'fleetline', 'Streamliner', 'torpedo', 'sloper'(Australia) and probably a few more.

    As for Buick models, Special, Super, Century and Roadmaster, they are Series names, not body styles. Series 40, 50, 60 & 70, respectively. The Series varied by which GM body shell they were based on, i.e. "B" body, "C" body, the wheelbase and which engine size, 248 or 320, that Series used. Specials (40) and Supers (50) always used the smaller 248 engine. Century (60) and Roadmaster (70) always used the 320.

    The Buick Sedanet was first offered in the '41 model year in in Series 40B & 60 and expanded to Series 50 & 70 in '42. The last year Buick of that body style was 1950 when they were called "Jetback". Between '49 and '52 all other GM divisions discontinued use of that body style.

    I have owned, over time, three '41 Buick Special Sedanets, long one of my favorite models, though the '49 would be my choice today, or the '48/'49 Olds 98 and Caddy 62 fastbacks.

    Olds sedanette.jpg My current project is a 1946 model 76 Olds sedanet or Dynamic Cruiser, the intermediate 'B' model not the smaller 'A' body or bigger 'C' body. It will look like this when finished but with over-riders on bar and no skirts. Identical OEM colour

    For 1946 sedanets included:-
    • 'A' bodies - Chevy Fleetline Aero, Pontiac Torpedo and Olds 66;
    • 'B' bodies - Pontiac Streamliner, Olds 76 & 78; Buick Special and Cadillac 61; and
    • 'C' bodies - Olds Custom Cruiser (98), Buick Super and Roadmaster, Cadillac 62.
    Slopers (All enclosed coupes as they were also known by GM) are unique to us Ozzies. GM commenced building them in 1935 phasing them out in 1941 (Oldsmobile, Chevrolet, Buick, Pontiac) with Ford commencing later in 1939. Two distinct bodies were produced by GM, COP (Chev, Olds & Pontiac 6) and BOP (Buick, Olds & Pontiac 8). Also GMH didn't copy the 1933 V16 Cadillac fastback coupe built for show purposes only as it was unaware of its existence.

    There were even Hudson Terraplane sedanettes built in 1936 by another Ozzie bodybuilder.
    MOPAR (Plymouth & Dodge) slopers were built by TJR bodybuilders from 1937-38.

    He's a friend's 35 Chevy Master (Sloper). There is another HAMB thread dedicated to slopers.

    It's funny, even way back then I really wanted a 50- 88 Coupe. I have had one for 30 years now, maybe I will get it finished someday.

    Those GM fastbacks are beautiful. Here's a shoebox Ford styling exercize I saw on the Hemmings Blog, as well as a few fastbacks I've seen at shows. My favorite of this genre is the '53 Bentley.

    Here's mine...it's a '48 Cad. I've owned it for over 16 years and am just now getting started on it...Nova subframe is installed and work will continue from that point. I guess I'm not up on all the correct vernacular, I've only heard Cadillacs called Sedanets...

    Cads were originally listed as "Sedanettes", anyone with some sales brochures can confirm that.
