  2. The flange needs to transition from a 130* bend to a 1/2 round profile. That sounds difficult and is even a bit harder than it sounds.

    I think I'll need to start with a tapered piece vs straight since the 1/2 round profile uses quite a bit more metal than the the 130 bend.

    Maybe 3 pieces -1 with the 130 bend, 1 with the 1/2 round & 1 for the transition.

    While Tipping them, the start of 1/2 round start needs to bend the opposite the 130 bend. The return of the 1/2 round meets up in the same direction as the 130. Lots to sleep on

    Hey, 31V;
    I don't suppose... that since you are redoing these things anyways, that you could/would set up a camera, cell, whatever, & put it on some sort of video? & then let us view it? Would you, pretty please... :D . Seeing it unfold, uhm no, - get shrunk, folded, twisted, etc, into genuine 3-D form would be very helpful. Esp after the teaser you ran "That sounds difficult and is even a bit harder than it sounds." :D . Not that I'm trying to up your difficulty level or anything, but... :D .
    Thanks for the thread so far, btw.

    I am officially worn out...my ass is numb, my scroll finger is killing me, and my right wrist is developing carpal tunnel. It's 12:45pm and I started reading this entire thread at 8:30am...and I'm still in my jammies! I feel like I've been on an emotional roller coaster...been there, done that with shelling out a wheelbarrow full of $$$ for what turned out to be a POS 3w body that needed another wheelbarrow full of $$$ to fix ...I was feeling for you.
    But in the end, you pulled it off...I am so proud of your tenacity and skills. Bravo.

    patiently waiting further updates...

  7. Thanks Larry,
    Great story lmao

  8. So I've been thinking today, sorry no pics or videos of that.

    But what I need is a 1/2 round that tapers to 1/4 round- from edge to center. and bent on that curve. Do they make a bead roller die for that :)

    Ill try some ideas in the am

  13. Thanks, we take good care of each other

    I think it looks fantastic . Moose did such a great photo shop job once again. You know I named that color Poison Apple a long time ago. Poison Apple Coupe fits here in more ways than one especially with a white ( apple flesh colored insides ) interior.

    Thanks a bunch Larry

    Its taken me a week to read this thread and I have to say, I feel like a kindergardner sitting in a room full of doctors talking about a surgery they are doing. I honestly have no idea what is going on other than I know that it is way out of my league. Just when I thought I knew a little about building a vehicle I have been shown that I have a lot to learn. I can also say that you have just made a bunch of guys that I origninally thought were bad asses look like amatures....rediculous....cant wait to see more....

    I will probably print that out and hang it on the wall here someplace. I might even take it to the tattoo shop & one day Someone will probably take it to the granite tombstone carver when I go home.

    I was personally leaning towards the blue paint until I saw that poison apple! Wow, does that set it off and look great on your car. What kind of paint is that? Special blend of paint I assume. ??

  19. Yes it's special and fruits from experimenting. Somewhat unorthodox methods and materials that are still undergoing durability testing. The fender has been Outside 24/7 for almost 20 months with very little attention & some abuse at the hand of some high winds. Its doing absolutely perfect so far.

    There's a few related threads.
    Poison apple fits well here in many ways. :)

    Hey, 31V;
    American funnycar-style 5spoke spindle mounts... MMmmmmmm... :D . They look good, & I do like the poison apple color combo.
    I'm guessing that you've found a way to build a set real cheap-like? :D . I hope that your set of those things don't follow the same path as the picoupe has. Be cheaper to whittle them out of mag by hand... :D .
    Marcus...

  21. I give up,
    What are you talking about ?
    I haven't had any tequila, maybe that's the problem. Lol let me catch up.

    I have a set of AR mag spindle mounts , sexiest wheels ever in my opinion, I'm just not sure I want to run them and trust the itty bitty flange to hold a rotor hat. Although langy pulled it off on his willys coupe. Then there's the polishing of magnesium:( but the luster of polished mag is unbeatable. image.jpg

    I also have a set of ETs 15x4.5 that match the 16" rears.

    The ones pictured and photoshopped are the reissue out of aluminum and they are set up to accept the designed brakes. Gorgeous and expensive set up.

    They also have a redesigned similar wheel with lug nuts but the lip is just all kinds of wrong.
    image.jpg

    A real good compromise would be a set of T70s up front.
    image.jpg

    15x7s T70 narrowed and polished

    image.jpg

    The best of the T70s would be in the small mopar pattern because the center is smaller, the windows are bigger and the spokes are just a little closer to the spindle mount's shape, and polished of course.

    Hey, 31V;
    Guess I need new glasses worse than I thought. & maybe I need some tequila prior to posting... <shrug> . Or not. :D . From the two photochopped pics you posted in post 527, they looked like the orig AR version 5spoke spindle mags. I called them the funnycar-style mag, because in pics, that's what I've seen them on mostly, + of course, Andy's Instant T cars, & didn't know what the proper term/#/etc was for them. Before I replied, I erased the comment about the neat shiny expensive AR 5spoke spindle mounts having to be rebuilt by hand & costing way too much time & $$$ - sorta like the picoupe has done, which would be a long project in itself. I'm sorry I posted, I should quit while I'm merely behind... :D .
    Thanks for the extra pics of the variations of the AR. All the T-70s I've seen have this 3/8" lip around the spoke, & when I inquired if it could be cut/ground off safely, was told no - because the lip was designed to strengthen the spoke. I'm to assume (I guess) that there was a design-strength issue w/the orig????? . I got to fondle a nice set of the spindle mounts at a swap meet earlier this year, but even not polished & bare, I couldn't justify the price. Nuts...
    Not sure if the reissue that has the 'modern' lip is from the folks in Chicago(?), but when I talked to them at Backtothe50's, they said a std old-style lip could be had. One of the wheels is really close to the old orig AR bolt-on 5spoke. 2 piece wheel, but dia & backspacing as you want/need it. The price ( somewhere in the 250.00 per wheel area, IIRC) seemed to be less than the oem stuff is going for - of which most seems to be shot. But of course it's Al, not mag. Good stuff has too many zeros to even think about, although that is always relative to the income & bank account.
    Marcus...

  24. The wheels you were holding are not T70 there were T70R that R stands for rib and some say race. The R style came out a couple years after the T70 and the T70 stopped. Then a reissue of the T70R then a much more recent reissue (you can order them today) of the T70R. The R is much stronger but I don't like it. Every time I see one I picture die grinders and files :D:p

    Just checking in and catching up. Beautiful metal sculpture my friend. I vote for a traditional "flavor" for the wheels — in keeping with the style of the exhaust system on your rendering.

    Hat's off to you for all your hands-on creativity.

    Keep us salivating.

  26. Thanks Charlie , ill do my best.
    Those pipes are there just as shown, moose just photoshopchromed them.

    The bolt on 10 spokes aren't horrible but I deserve better :)
