I'm intrigued by the use of pewter castings incorporated into the body. I think I'd have just hammered the door tops over a pipe to make the flair.

Then again, being the kind of guy who would just cast things myself for the fun of it, I do understand.

The joy of the chase, the thrill of the hunt & all that rot. :D

LOL, you're redoing the whole quarter window sheet metal just to avoid that aren't you? :D

I've often wondered where the saying came from...."I'VE DONE SO MUCH WITH SO LITTLE FOR SO LONG, I CAN NOW DO ANYTHING WITH NOTHING"..........it had to be someone talking about you...soo much talent with so small of an amount of tools..........keep posting

Thats a scary thought right there.
But it's still a great build!

    Keep at it. :)

  10. It's certainly standing with the top contenders. Sadly some Similar OT to traditional builds have been deleted or closed.

    No!

Really like your approach here I've been saving up parts to attempt this. Always looking for something different to build. After seeing how you handled the cowl I might be doing this a bit differently as well. Keep going!

  12. ^^^^That is one of the most OT contraptions that I've seen on the HAMB in a while. ^^^^^
Why do I like it so much????

I gess you included me cause you agree with me on the NO part?
Because saying it, gives me the chills! S-dime is a Bad word in my book!

Am I the only one getting problems with seeing the pictures? My device starts to load pictures, and instantly becomes slower. And won't open them anymore?
Is there an Photobucket link for me to try, because I love to see updates.

  14. I can't see pics either, but I can in the attachment link. That's why I quote them

My thinking was that if I did manage to pull this off, it might inspire others to try it themselves. If they did then I could easily reproduce these pewter pieces now that I have the moulds.

The question of a frame is an interesting one. I suppose it could be something custom made, but relatively simple, or a model A or B frame provided that my final body is close enough in proportions to the original body. I wonder how much leeway there is in this regard.

Excuse my ignorance, what does OT mean? Is it Original Tin?

OT means Off Topic, or basically something not HAMB oriented.

BTW, IMHO You can surely put Beetlejuice on stock ford rails but the crossmembers will need to be fitted.

Is there a danger that my thread might get deleted by the powers that be?

Always. I back up anything I don't want to lose.

Sometimes I believe the moderators get busy and start taking a broad axe to things, in the way of "keeping house."

I cast another bead to run along the bottom of the body. My maximum casting length is about 9'' long, so I need to solder them together to make a longer length. 20131011_140134a.jpg

I decided to solder the bead to the door itself. I know that on the original body this bead is below the door, but I figured I had the artistic licence, and it keeps things neat. 20131011_115348a.jpg

I cut and soldered more of this casting to form the bead running along the bottom of the cowl. 20140113_143817a.jpg

How can that be right if a thread is generating genuine interest and positive feedback?

Well, there's this sign on the door. It says: No VW's or Mustangs allowed.

They are bending the rules a bit because your project is so unique and interesting.

  29. its NOT a VW. its VW body pieces being used to build a traditionally inspired roadster.
and its in england so the rules get relaxed a little.

I agree with alteredpilot....this is a great use of parts to make a hot rod,.....This is no different from going to a junk yard and cutting the roof out of a station wagon for metal patch panels............I'm all in on what your doing.............tanner
