Thanks, Rootie. I was fairly certain on the 1937 because of Shaw in the middle of the front row, but I wanted to be sure.

 

Or maybe because it was a 1937 LaSalle! The others: '52 Stude, '53 Ford, '57 Mercury, '51 Chrysler.

 

I think that is a 58 Mercury due to the 4 headlights. Yes?

 

You are close; most of the quad headlight models did not come out until '58,
but Mercury brought theirs out in early summer, if I recall correctly. It's been too long ago to trust my memory, but I want to say the very early marketing may have been due to getting the nod for the Indy Pace Car spotlight for the '57 race...

My good friend Bob Wright who built this roadster in 1948 signed the image in Don Montgomery's book for me before he passed ...... We still remember Bob!

 

Don Blair off in his blown flathead, ran around 145, no helmet, no roll bar, El Mirage, 46 or 47. The car ran a Mercedes blower that Don's friend Frank Morimoto found in Germany and brought back home...it sat in Blair's window for years after Don ran it...

 

No. '57 Mercury's could be optioned with 2 or 4 headlights.(Chryslers, too) In this case, the car is a Turnpike Cruiser and they all came with 4 headlights. The front end styling is different for the '58's and there is no mistaking then for '57's.

The #25 track roadster started out as a Kurtis midget that was stretched and eventually ended up back east as Rufus Greys #83 Gapco spl. that Mario Andretti won his first USAC sprint car race in.

This looks like a Kiwi Brand Shoe Polish Promotional Van - Victorian plate(?) and RHD says it too.
Check those whitewalls - they would have been pretty big-time in Oz - especially on a light truck

That's an interesting looking tire on the right rear of #37 with some serious looking tread lugs. I wonder if it was some kind of Pikes Peak custom retread. At one point Bobby Unser was the master of using walnut shell retreads at Pikes Peak that he helped design himself.
