What does it look like with your cardboard split window pattern if you remove the two teardrop/splits? I think that's the shape you want. I do like the split window idea, but I think I may change my mind if I saw that cardboard window shape without the split...

  3. You've driven it thru the brink of the precipice already.... and regardless of window shape chosen........whenever this car comes skidding to a halt, it's gonna' be right . I hardly think any fuck up starts today, or even tomorrow. If anything the "fuck up"..... made you grab that beer on page 1.....and give us this great story. Awesome "windows" presentation.....and am surprised you haven't messed with anyone and tossed some 70's van window diamonds on it, yet. It's looking good man.

To me, the split window looks better. Maybe you could drop the window down an inch or something, but I don't know what I would do if it were me. I've really enjoyed following along in this thread. You'll make the right decision.

Not that my opinion means anything… but I like the split window idea. Thanks for the "why split" explanation too. Makes perfect sense. I like the first version on post #593. Flat on the bottom to follow the line of the roof to rear quarter transition, curved on top to follow the roof corners, sorta.
With your eye for what's right, it'll turn out fine however it ends up.

I'm still voting for the split window.
It'll be harder to pull off, but it keeps the glass flat, plus I just like the look.

I'm not totally opposed to the split window idea.
I like the look of that one above.
I like the photo shopped split window size and shape below.
IMO both of those split window shapes work well.
    image.jpg
The one I really think I don't like is the one below.
For what it's worth I feel that the outer ends of the windows are too sort of pointy in shape.
The other 2 examples are different in shape than the side windows, but somehow still seem to work.
I think that in the last example the shape puts them totally out of place.
Again, this is just my feeling on it, your mileage and taste may vary :)
I'm sure you will make it look awesome.

    Hey, 31V;
I still like the split window, but the last version is too pointy. I get the bullet theme, but the rear qtr windows look good from the side because they follow the roofline/C pillar shape. I still think this photochop is *very* close. What I'd like to see is the lower window edging dropped down maybe 1", & the upper outside corners raised up (lifted) - so's that the upper curve shape matches, or comes very close to matching the curve on the bottom of the window. Yes, it'd be almost a rectangle, but we don't want to go quite that far, but I think the arc of the top of the split window would look best if it matched the arc of the roofline, as seen from the rear. I also think you'd want a little (just a little - no more than half the windows' height, probably best at around 1/4 of the height) vertical edging on the very outside of the window. Would you mind much trying that in cardboard/tape? The width of both the whole split window & the split post itself seem just about right. Maybe a tad more width if the window gets bigger (visually), but only to keep proportion(s). I think the taillights look good where they are, partially due to the body molding curving up & around the side, thereby visually disappearing, as does the point of the taillight. They would look really out of place, maybe horrible, if the points faced each other. Certainly not "flowing".

Splits are for gymnasts. Keep doing what you do. Looking good !

  20. I'm kinda thinking you might have forgot what the 1/4 windows look like.
So here's the first pattern and with its plenty of revisions over top of each other next to the 1/4 window.

    image.jpg

Here's the second pattern next to the 1/4 window.

    image.jpg

Now here's the pattern for the window's opening laid ontop of the the second rear window pattern. ( You can see part of the P7) I assure you that is 100% accurate to the 1/4 window opening.
    image.jpg
I did pull the corners up slightly just like the tail pan is and the taillights will be.

    Here it is again
    image.jpg

    image.jpg

Now when you look at the 1/4 window's slope down there is a small spot thats almost straight, but not vertical & very subtle. Once it starts down there is no vertical. In the very first pattern I tried to emulate that break in a fluid curve and it didn't look so great. Here
    image.jpg
Doing that made 2 very distinct flat spots as well as the subtle & it's because that is the 1/4 window pattern just stretched.

Pictures are 2 dimensional, they don't really show any perspective as if a picture of a circle is taken on a skew, it photographs as an oval. On oval photographed on a skew such as this on the back panel looks even more oval.

  21. Thanks, it's sorta rough to really make things that are your own. Bang out a replica of a willys split rear window or a 34 ford rear window is no easy feat but there's a whole bunch of another dimension that's missing compared to this. Thanks for your confidence, seems you share that with some other guys here.

Thank you for the words and confidence.
Of course your opinion means plenty,

    Yes, yes, yes and yes.

    Why not ?

Is the sedan much different than a 35/36 coupe?
I'd like to take you up on that.

    Thanks Larry,
Make sure you take a look at my post in reply to NRGWIZARD above.
Have you ever seen a picture of a beautiful woman and then meet her in person and wonder who's picture you were looking at ? How about knowing a beautiful woman personally but it seems impossible to get a good picture of?

It's kind of ironic that I needed to make all of those "right" choices because I made one bad choice in buying this thing :) ohhh if I could turn back time. I could have had my Vicky just about finished with all this effort.
    Thank you

    Thanks Leo!

    Hey, 31V;
No, I didn't forget about the issues w/the rear qtr window, in fact that's why I tried to bring it up. Your version of the rear qtr window flows, & follows, the roofline better than the hacked version did. I think we are talking about the same thing, but if I was there, in less than 5 min, I could sketch what I trying to describe. Boy, the cat that said that a pic is worth a thousand words, wasn't kidding. I also get the issues of trying to photograph/draw things on various angles, & have it come out looking correct - much less trying to duplicate it in 3D. I'm flat-out amazed at how well you're doing w/all this, because I can't... ;( . If you think it'd help, PM me your email addy. I'll try to ink in the shape I'm trying to describe, take a pic, & then email that to you. No other way I can do it. Cumbersome, but it'll work - if you want... :D . & maybe it'll only be good for a laugh... or two... :D .
    Marcus...

I'll click a few photos of it this weekend. You tell me if you like it..

  25. Great

  26. In the mean time, here's a pic to play with.
That is a grid of 2x2 squares, they are nearly perfectly drawn on the paper. But when put onto the skewed back panel that's also on a compound curve then photoed they really don't appear square or uniform. If you have a crop feature that has grid lines, you can see it better especially if you compare the grid lines to the garage door which is a square and plumb as anything.

So, If you have an idea on window shape, print this out, doodle it up and then post the photo with your ideas. I should be able to get real close to duplicating your doodle. This should be fun image.jpg
