Ok, so Dennis could only do partial runs, as his cage is not back in the car, and he does not like getting kicked out of the track anymore. Besides, they know how fast he is. The announcer reminded the crowd how fast Dennis really is, and how fast he put this car back together to get these initial test runs in. Dennis said the new frame was great, and he was hooking up with a narrower tire.
And when Dennis is not running 130mph in his 32..... Is the flag starter at the F.A.S.T. Banger Hill Climb! Yes, he gets style points too!
Wow I've loved this car for a long time, seen the wheel stand on you tube years ago. Great to see it come back to life. And so quickly. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
Bet Dennis can feel the difference in the frame. I recall my stock Deuce rails winding up like a big rubber band when torqued. Later frame (boxed) had a much more solid feel. The whole car became 'stiffer', like when you replace rubber grommets with urethane ones in a later model... Much nicer feel, more 'controllable'. Hard to imagine a 434 cubic inch small block's 'twistability'... "Wow!" barely begins to define it!
This took me a while to post, but here is another pass that Dennis took on his trial runs out at Irwindale last week.
Car sounds great! Looks like a good balance of traction and engine speed during the launch. It didn't sound like he got it up on the convertor much though, but I guess that will come later. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I was amazed when reading through the thread the frame he was doing those amazing wheelies on was not boxed and on a transverse leaf. I had a completely boxed frame and it still twisted alot. When I felt the difference was after the full cage was installed like is and was in this car. The cage stops most of the twist - the boxing keeps it from folding up. Awesome to see the car back at it. Looks great. I keep his accident in the back of my mind for sure. He was lucky.
Hey all, Dennis has the car back with the roll cage in it. He says that they are going to Iwrindale Thursday 2-12-15 for a full pass, weather permitting. No photos, cause, well a dark interior shot of a roll cage wrapped in foam is not that exciting, and I did not take a picture.
Wow, what a bad ass car with very cool history. Is Dennis going to make it to the March Meet in Bakersfield?
Dennis and his boys took the coupe out to irwindale for a full blown pass with the roll cage installed. He did not get kicked out of the track. He said it felt great, and was m ow ready to paint. Sorry no video or times but I tried posting this photo Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
