Just first want to say I really enjoy this website because of the different vehicles and work that gets put into these cars. I will admit I am a Chevy guy but like seeing the different builds going on here. This is my '60 Wagon..Bought it off an older gentleman here in town , ended up buying a '60 El Co off of him as well. Almost sold this wagon but nobody came through with the dough so it got me motivated to tear into it. The car has sat for 19 years prior to me owning it and it sat another year before I stuffed it into the garage. Won't bore you anymore with the story but I plan on keeping the paint/patina , air bags, custom interior , just a nice cruiser...Here is the car when I first got it ... When I brought it home the wife said it looked like a he****....
Pulled it out of my backyard with this '62 impala wagon I have...and pushed it up into the garage with my truck, i like looking back at this stuff to see where I have got to. I work by myself so my cars/truck put in some work. I actually pushed it into the driveway and pressure washed 20 years of Vegas dirt/mud and spent the afternoon pulling out yards of weed/gr*** that had grown into every crev*** of the undercarriage. Motor pull as well.
Good project....don't know if you've seen my '60 Chevy wagon build, but if you haven't, go here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=785551&highlight=the+2nd+best+60+chevy+build If you've got questions, don't hesitate to ask, maybe I can help somehow...and I may have some parts you'll need...just ask... Thanks childersbros, I actually prefer the '60 over the '59's. I appreciate that 40studedude! I will definitely check out you build!! Will do Bruce and thanks for posting!
I started on this car back in August, in between working on other cars i have as well. Trying to get it to see pavement by next month. Did the bushings and balljoints, did a half *** job of cleaning everything to paint it but it was just a quickie anyway. Drillin holes for front air bags, also half *** cleaned engine bay and sprayed some ch***is black, does make a nice difference. Also helper was detailing while I was working.
Weekend before last I removed rear drum brakes, replaced rear wheel cylinders and also removed the rear springs. This weekend I cut off the rear spring perches, drilled the holes for the bags (which I was dreading) fit up the air bags and installed them yesterday. I was pretty anxious to see what the car was going to look like since it was my first airbag install.
OH, and since I really hate and I mean despise cracked windshields, I bought this windshield from a guy who had bought it for his Impala...Well he had ordered the sedan gl*** so he couldn't use it..butyl tape everywhere but was new. I had ordered the gasket and this huge box was taking up room in the garage so it was a must to get this done this weekend as well. Removed the cowl and the trim before they came out so it wouldn't take so long. And of course my main man was helpin as always..he loves the cars!!
Was so excited about the installed rear bags I wanted to see how it looked layed out so I mounted the rear wheels and lowered it carefully to the ground. And this is where I'm at as of last night.
I'll keep that in mind oldwood, its pretty complete...just looking for a nice grille but I'm gonna ask the guy I bought it from !
