I need a little help with this one. The guy with the flashlight looks to be Clay Smith. But the engine appears to be a DOHC V-8. NOVI is the logical assumption but the cam covers look wrong compared to all the photos I have seen of the NOVI. Does not appear to be the Stude, or the 4 cam Ford that Bob Estes ran. So I ask, Is it Clay Smith? What engine?

    Thanks.

It is Clay Smith and it is the Stude dohc 1953. You won't find it in the entry/results at Indy because they swapped in a Offy and that is what Stevenson qual./raced as the #97. Aggie did enter it in some western races in 53 with the Stude but it never qualified.

    Rootie.

That makes sense. The reason I dismissed the Stude was also the cam covers, never seen those.

I believe that when Hopkins got it they did some updates/mods to it. Henry Banks was kinda in charge of it in 56.
