Some or many of these pictures may have been posted before, so bear with me if there are duplicates.
I sure enjoyed looking at them, and wanted to share......

Hi Bob, this is my old local(pic taken in 53) that was demolished in 67. I used to stop in and get stickers on my way home from school. JW

There are several gas station books published over the years that have a surprising number of gas station pictures. Amazing that some people would drive around and snap 100s of gas stations! One book has a picture of an ESSO station I worked at during the mid '60s in Shively (Louisville) KY.

  8. My grandfather owned a Standard station and tourist cabins in the 30's through early 50's in Scappoose Oregon along what was the the highway from Portland to the coast. If anybody finds a picture of same, PLEASE let me know as it would be priceless to me. It was Hein's Standard Station and cabins.
    THANKS

I am (70) years old, and really enjoy looking at these old pictures, but this one really stands out for my youth ... and just shouts "COOL" :) Always love that style shoebox as well as the dress and hair shown here..I could name every one of them with a classmate..... I have seen this picture before, and while very cool, it includes some interesting oddities, IMO. The buildings and dress do look '50s, but the gas pumps are I think mid '30s Wayne. Normally these would have been upgraded much sooner after the war. But the one thing that stands out for me is the '49/'50 Ford. The low-in-front stance, substantial amount of drop, large and wide-looking rear tires, caps instead of wheel covers, no skirts, and the oversize tail pipes just looks very contemporary to me. Add what possibly looks like part of a modern vehicle just inside the lower left of the picture. Would like to know the dates on the license plates and.....if the picture is real. :)

  13. I'm only guessing but maybe 1963 - 1964?

I dunno, the burger joint and ice cream billboard in the background seem to lend some authenticity to picture. And the modern vehicle you see looks to me like a trash bin or something, but I could be wrong.

You're probably right, but that shoebox just looks out of place.

I remember R&F Service in Kannapolis NC from the 50s thru the early 90s. It was operated by Thermond Richardson and Charlie Fink, 2 of my uncles. They allowed me to hang around there while I was growing up. Those were the days.................................

Drakes Store was out in the country,I bought gas from George until his health failed and he had to close the store.

Gotta love a old place that had a pot belly wood stove to keep warm.HRP

Here is another one of my favorite pictures...
I stole this gas station off of the HAMB site and had the original car taken out and my '49 Chevy photoshopped into it... way cool I think !
