Eric...I went back looking for info on what ****** you're looking for but couldn't find it...wasn't it a select-a-shift Olds/Pontiac 6 bolt trans? If so, I MAY have a lead on one. One of my ol buddys junked out a 60 olds with a manual trans and had it laying out on the ground. And he also junked a 56 Pontiac with one. dennys56pontmotorntrans.jpg dennys60oldsmotorntrans.jpg This was about 4 years ago and he came on hard times....sold a lotta stuff to the s****pers. I'll check to see if he still has this, er...."transmission". After blowing 4 of 'em up with my old 57 Pontiac, I don't have a very high opinion of these things but I'll check for ya.

Rocky, that second photo looks like an olds ******. Let me know what you find out. Sounds like having a full spare would be a good thing!

Now that you found out you need Olds trans parts instead of Pontiac...

I started looking, and so far I have:

-NOS speedo "driven" gear with it's NOS screw-in adapter. I test fit on a 53 Olds unmolested trans, and it meshes good, and turns by spinning the mainshaft.

-NOS cork seal for input shaft. If it was fresh stock, you had to soak in boiling water to expand it to get it on. I don't think there is a product that could permanantly soften "old' cork...but at least you can see how to shape a new one.

-a USED "drive gear that presses onto the mainshaft. I'd need to pull the shaft out to press it off.

-I found old NOS gasket packages with part number labels, if you need the numbers? If you did not know, you need a full face gasket between trans and bell. Also, the bell housing needs a hole on it's face for the Roadmaster p***enger side shift rail to clear. It's info in my Buick trans thread on hamb. I forgot to look at your bell so I don't know if it is like an old Offy bell I had, that already has that hole.

In the meanwhile, put up two pics of your rear trans yoke, so I can see what retainers you need. The yoke may not be Olds, so I don't want to search yet.

other pic would be of the welded-on yoke on the front of the driveshaft, to also see what retainers. Both pics taken looking at the round U'joint cup face side.(threaded holes? etc)

    F&J, Thanks
    - On the cork seal. I found a source that is selling a large diameter o-ring. I think I will give that a try.
    - Gasket set. I did find a full gasket set from "BEST"

I am intersted in the both the drive gear and driven gear. I will shoot you a PM.
    Thanks
    Eric

Been a long time since I posted progress. I took a few weekends off to winterize, but we're back on track now.

Yesterday I finished up most of the brake line plumbing.

I think I will paint the residual pressure valves.

I decided to re-use the old bone brackets as shock mounts. I swapped them side to side.

    It took a little heating
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1415579562.507330.jpg

And a little fab using some pre-stamped ears.

    And a little test fit.

Waiting on a flywheel so that I can ****on up the drivetrain.

Looking really good. I love seeing old Ford stuff reused for purposes not necessarily as they were intended. I can't wait to see your coupe in person.

Here's an update. I'm closing in on one year as I brought the car home late November, and a little behind my goal of having it fired in 12 mos. I don't want to press it.

I found out 56 Buick clutch and pressure plates are a little unique. So I bought a 55 pressure plate, clutch disc from Kanter, and found a 55 flywheel that is on its way. Once I get that faced I can ***emble the drive train.

I'm using a 1958 aluminum water pump and sending it to Flying Dutchman Water pump rebuilders in Selma Oregon. Once this gets back I need to get the pulleys on and fab a generator bracket.

Contacted ****ster for a pair small flange Rochester 2gc's, for the Edmunds 2-2, and I'll get a few Edmunds air cleaners

I hope to get the headers to a coater on Friday, rebuild the starter, generator, order a radiator, wiring kit............

I really like the rear shock mounts...might have to "borrow" that idea...

I tried two methods and decided on option one.
    1. swapping the bone brackets side for side facing rearward using the two lower holes on the axle tube.
    2. keeping the bone brackets on there original respective L and R sides but rotating them 90 degrees to use the back two holes on the axle tube.
While both options could work, and you could argue option 2 would be stronger, option one seemed to look better and I think option one will be quite strong.

I studied pics of the aftermarket cast brackets, but it just looked like lower eye was going to be outside the 36 bone and would need a lot of shock angle for the shock to clear the bone itself.....

I also had some F1 front brackets that I was holding up to the rear but wasn't feeling it...
Then I see Steadfast just advertised these in the cl***ifieds. It might be possible to make a bracket that picked up 2 or 3 backing plate mounting points and use bolt on shock front shock brackets.
Kinda cool on the right car.

    Thanks guys,
Still waiting on the clutch, pressure plate, a flywheel, water pump, all enroute.
Had a fun conversation with ****s Hot Rod Carbs, and looking forward to getting the Rochesters
Got the the shocks tightened up, rear wheel cylinders are in, brakes are in and I can finish the rear lines tomorrow.

On the rear hubs I cut the studs flush, and pressed them out. Not sure if I will use original swage style or drill them larger for conventional knurl. These measure .550/.556 not. .625 like some.
Ive been studying the DORMAN catalog.

Heres the swage tool has anyone used this with any success.?

Well, if it makes you feel better I'm closing in on three years for a mere engine swap and a brake upgrade.

Besides, if a "build thread" ends when the car's on the road.... well, we wouldn't want THAT to happen too soon 'cuz I'm enjoying this one! Great work.
