As part of my plans for 2015 I hope to be bringing the Hudson over to attend several events and the final one on stage 1 will be Santa Maria. I have been checking hotels and of course the host hotel
Historic Santa Maria Inn is fully booked but I am on a wait list. A lot of the others are also booked out but I am looking for one close to the action and restaurants etc.
I did book one(free cancellation) that is close to the Santa Maria Inn but looks seedy and is called the Holiday Motel. Bad reviews and my travelling companion(not my wife either) is very cautious about places to stay!!
I am still actively watching what is available but maybe some suggestions from experienced attendees.
It can be difficult trying to organise this from over 11,000 kms away.

  2. I'm not sure of the name, but I think it's the Travelodge that's about 1/2 mile south of the host motel and pretty clean. It's a chain so they have a better budget for upkeep. Also, the Motel 6 chain's had a huge facelift recently. Check them out. I just stayed at one in Palm Springs a few days ago for an auction. All new laminate floors, beds, bedding, paint, flat screens, basin style sinks.......

Yeah, that Travelodge might be a really good option. Maybe I'll cruise the Muntz up there to see you guys, depending upon who your mystery "companion" is ... ;)

The wife and I stayed at the Holiday Motel a few years ago. Your companion will not last the night. The location is great but everything else ****s. The rooms are sketchy at best, there are parties and BBQ's going on in the parking lot until about 3 in the morning and the staff just seems to be indifferent about it. We are pretty easy going about that sort of stuff and just laughed it off as part of the experience but if your companion is fussy he/she will hate it.

Check out lodging in Los Alamos. It's just south of Santa Maria.

Always 1/2-hour up the road in San Luis Obispo, at the Madonna Inn.

Seriously, Google it. Just Google it.

My wife and I make the trip from San Francisco, as a getaway, a few times a year.

The Holiday Hotel was the pits I stayed once-never again. Nice hotels by the 101 that have everything your partner would want, including full kitchen.
