    It has been a while since I have posted any pictures from my neighbor Joe Kerr's shop but since early this year he has been building a 33 coupe for our mate Marty Bachand (who already has a nice glass bodied 34 that he drives the wheels off). There are enough photos in the bank now that it is time to start a build story on the car.
    We start with Joe and Willie Trump picking the car that was acquired for the build up at Marty's place in Illinois.

    First item on the agenda was to un "street rod" the chassis

    There was also a little chassis work required in a few other areas--this was not quite up to Joe's standards :)

    This is about all of the "keeper" parts

    Despite some of the fabrication indignities that took place in the past the cars is a very solid unit as seen by the floor

    The first actual fabrication involved bracing up the body in anticipation of the chopped roof to come

    Even the rebate for the top insert is nice although it will not matter as the top will be filled after the chop is done

    We are lucky in Indy as we have a Redi-Strip facility just north and east of downtown, about 30 minutes from Joe's shop

    With the shiny stuff removed the body still looked good--very good in fact, for an 80 year old car.

    Marty B.---- It's gonna be hard to top your previous model 40s but Jo Kerr is the shop to do it---Torsion Bar suspension? I'm subscribed----lets watch the build!! BILL RINALDI

    Sorry for the delay in posting the next installment but I was busy in my shop and then we had the PRI show from Thursday through Saturday. Getting back on track now and there should be a regular flow of updates. Here are a couple more of the laying out of the chop and then some shots of the roof coming off and then the back part being aligned. The next installment will show the "A" pillar re-alignment.

    The cut line around the "C" pillar was dropped to where the contour would be easiest to align and stepped up in the window openings for the same reason.

    And away we go!

    Back on and aligned at the rear window opening
    [​IMG]

    The "B" pillar portion of the rear window opening was removed up to the drip rail and these pieces of flat stock were rosette welded in place to strengthen the join.

    Then the inner pillar structure with the upper door hinge mount was welded back in place
    [​IMG]
    Now the outer sheet metal is added

    The gap in the upper portion of the opening is next along with welding the "B pillar skin.

    The weld across the back of the "C" pillar is next to lock that area in place

    Then the lower rear portion of the quarter window surround is removed so that it can be moved forward to make the back of the window opening flow.

    Again the vertical cut was placed to minimize major contour adjustments.
