Projects Finally I get my Flathead powered T Roadster

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by mctim64, Dec 4, 2014.

  1. Ever since I was in high school I wanted a Flathead V8, anything would do I just thought they were cool. This was the late '70s and most my age didn't even know what they were but I had my eye on a 1940 Ford pickup that could be had for $2500 and in real good shape with a "Hot" Flatty. Well, I just couldn't sell my MGB fast enough to get the money (still have the MG BTW) so the truck went away and I moved on to other things.

A few years back I built a 59A for a friend that was going to put it in a '41 Merc but then decided to go with a 302. So now I'm stuck with an engine and nothing to put it in. I thought about it for my Sedan but that had to have a Y-Block. After dressing it up a little at a time over the years I have finally decided to build a car around it. I don't have much yet but it's starting. With the help of Derrek Boling we dug up a '27 T Roadster body, I will use a Boling Bros. frame, I have a "banjo" rear from a '41 Merc wagon that I will use a home made QC built by Mike Moore in OR with an enclosed drive line.

Things are moving along now so I will have more to share in the coming months.

The one that got away so many years ago.

Go get-em I admire a guy that sticks to their plan and aspiration’s.

I’ll be subscribing to this thread.

I still have a drawing I did of a Flathead powered 27 T Roadster on Deuce Rails in High School Study Hall around 1955; even built a wood model of it.

Very cool Tim, is that the same T body that was sitting in the Boling yard when I was there to load up my Y Block ? I thought it looked pretty good. :)

I applaud your choice on the QC, Mike is a great guy and his units are a work of art. Good luck with the project.

What kind of frame are you thinking of running? I was thinking of doing a build post as well. Maybe one day after I'm done. Really dig your start and all of your ford engines, vehicles in the background of your pics. I'm the same way ☺

Believe it or not, one of my cars started with a guy giving me a set of head lights.
    Good luck with your project.......

This is going to be a cool car. Anymore info on that quickchange? Tried googling him but came up with zilch. It looks like a nice piece.

The Y block man using a flathead. Very excited to see the outcome on this one. If the start is indicative of the build we know it will turn out great. Gonna take it to bonneville?

I saw Mike at a swap meet a couple of weeks ago, he told me that he only builds 2 or 3 units a year. It's not a business for him, and more of hobby, and he doesn't take orders normally. I will try to get in touch with him, and pass his contact info to you. In the past, I have owned and worked with a couple of converted ones, his is "head and shoulders" over those old units from the 50's.

I'm in Tim, I've always been partial to Flatties myself, although I never hotted one up. Not so little brother, who has one in his 32 Roadster utility, and it's been there since the late 70's - with a McCullough blower sitting on the top!

Tim, another one..... really, and with a Flathead... really. You are going to get on my bad side, really. Watching with anticipation on this one as well. Get it done.

I like everything I see so far, looking forward to seeing more of this one.

  29. Here's a picture of what I want it to look like. I don't know who this car belongs to but I thank them for the inspiration. My frame will be a standard Boling Bros. A frame like what is under my Sedan except with a 2" drop in the front. As for the QC Marty is correct, Mike only does about three a year. I was lucky enough to get the last one for this year. Looking forward to getting it.

And for Larry, here's another picture of Kyra. I let here help on the Sedan sometimes too.
