New power valves are in the mail. The car was idling so rich that the entire hood was starting to get dizzy. Can't wait to get it out of the garage so that I can check out the new stance and do a little fall cruising.
Daddio I had a problem with my shoebox that I thought was distributor related did a full turn up replaced everything plugs wires cap rotor ect. Come to find out I had two bad sets of wires and a two bad coil to cap wires. One distributor I even swapped the vacuum advance thinking that was it. because it seemed to run a little better with it unhooked
I changed the power valves in the 94s and it leaned things out. Ready for some cruising before the white crap comes.
Just read your thread from the beginning and thought your crazy to start cutting on that nice of a convertible but you nailed it with all the period correct modifications you've done on it so far. Really like the tail lite treatment, not one you see often. Good job.
Still need to fix a bunch of big images. The car ran great all day Sunday and I put a lot of miles on her. The tail pipe was wacking the axle all day, other than that it was a great ride. The Aerostar springs made a big difference in how it handles as well.
I have decided to break my 1954 cutoff rule in the name of good thrashable HP. The flathead might be sold tonight in order to make way for a fresh 348 of 58 vintage. I think this will be good alternative to the much more $ friendly small block and will allow me to pull a camper to shows ect.
Great job! Almost made me think I should buy my buddy's shoebox convert project (one good sedan that had been in a garage fire, one rusty sedan, one REALLY rusty convert), but I looked at the three projects I have going and decided, "Not right now."
You have so nailed the era, I would hate to see you compromise now. How about a straight stick conversion, with appropriate gearing? Sharp heads are said to boost compression, without compromising flow. Merc 255? That, or an Olds Rocket V8. This build deserves nothing less!
I have a hopped up Merc -54 256 y-block in my shoebox, runs like a champ, cruizin 90 like nothing on the highway, would'nt trade for anything, and you can stay with your -54 rule Beatiful car you have there
