This is Don Dolmetch's "senior dragster" with a slant six. It has a small diameter Frank Lupo converter (8" or 9"). Listen to the starting line rpm's. Mine won't rev like that with a loosened up 12" converter.

He participates on the regular HAMB board.

Thanks to all for your input. Sometimes I need to be reminded how little I know. I have a left over convertor from my bracket days so I`m going to put that in and roll the dice.

Any work on the car? I just got back in town and have started to work on my setup. Hope to be at the ANRA Aug race.

Glad to see you made it home ok. the car is coming along well, but like everything i do it has taken a on a life of its own. There may be some problems as to its acceptance. it looks alot like the sissell altered. the cage is in and i have a million little things to do before final assembly.

I am posting two pictures of the next SDRA car to be ready soon from "old sparks" out of Jamestown, CA. He has a dial up system so it is hard to post pictures. :):)

Can you say SDRA modified roadster, Chevy 292 power w/PG.:D

He will fill us all in on the details after I get pic's posted.;)

Thanks Tom for adding some credibility to my rants. Now it`s time to blow it apart and finish it right. One question, if I remember it right, you had some trouble with your steering. How did it turn out . It seems like I have a lot of slop in the box. I`ve already torn it down , checked it and it seems good, no wear marks etc. Maybe i`m used to to the stilleto box I had in the previous car. I`m using the same vw box you have. Thanks again dan

If it looks good on the inside just make sure the gear adjustment on the case is as tight as you can get it, then back it off the least you need for it to work correct & feel right. I think you may be right that they are not SPE or Stilleto boxes like we have been running and have a bit more free play than we are used to.

My main problem was at the connection for the steering box to left side rail. I was not able to use a spline coupler and it was a little sloppy (no make that a lot sloppy).

BobW, what kind of times does Don's Senior Dragster turn?

had it to t&t once with a best pass of 12.16 @ 110. a lot less than I want. as soon as I get this latest side job done, a gear and convertor change is in order. I may be running to much carb also but I`m already breaking the rules by changing more than one thing at a time.

Roadrunner5, I'm not sure Don ever posted any times. I believe most of his racing recently has been untimed.

old sparks, your time posted above in interesting to me. I have only 2 runs on the 300 Ford 6/Powerglide combo. The second run was a high gear only (driver error) affair netting a 13.07 @ 107. With our MPH's being close, it looks like I should squeeze quite a bit lower e.t. out of mine.

Don`t know how close we are as far as combo, but I`ll tell you what mine is plus sequence of the test & tune . Every run was off the hand brake. first run was 12.88,12.33 to 12. 16. These improvements involved jetting and timing changes. She seems to like 36 degrees lead. The jetting means nothing because of our geographical differences. Your head is so much more efficient than mine,I don`t know if timing even enters into it. I was running 3.50 gears W/ 26" tire and shifting at 4800 rpm. I think your car will take a lot more rpm. I hit the rev limiter on every pass (5200) making me think my convertor is junk . My convertor came off a previous ride ( 1800 + hp), I knew I changed it for a reason. Good luck, Kinda wish you were. closer, give us both someone to race.

OK guys, this is a picture of (old sparks) new SDRA ride that he ran at Eagle Field in Oct 2014. He can tell use all about it. Click on picture to get a bigger shot. At least you have a picture on your thread.

As per your and bobw talk, I think both of your rides are going through building pain. I think your ride with all the motor & head work is a 10.75-11.50 ride and I know bobw has a milder motor but will run 11.75-12.00 all day. You may think that you have to much carb but when you get all the bugs out of the build you will be surprised. Scott from the PNW group has even more and you see how his car runs with a 292/PG combo.

Thanks old 28. It means a lot to me to see the picture posted. Bob w, old 28 is right.that ford of yours seems to have a lot of potential. there is a guy who posts on here and inliners who knows way more than I ever will about racing the ford six . his handle is the Frenchtown flyer. You might try to get a hold of him. I know that in brackets, fast means nothing but it`s an ego thing with me.

Glad I was able to get a photo posted on your thread. Now you need to let all of use know what you have there, motor, trans, body, rear end, gears and where you are going with some changes.

If you want some good information on a 292 Chevy setup send a PM here on the HAMB to (SideRod), name is Scott Cummins and see what he has done and the setup he is using. May save some time and money over trying parts out.
That SDRA with pie crusts has run a mid to low 10 on an allm out pass. Those boys up that way have both some Chevy 292's and Ford 300's running.

PS--- I will take the T body with the pickup bed if you can haul it to the ANRA opener in April.

Thank you old sparks - you're too kind. I've been racing sixes since the '70s so its mostly what I've learned "what not to do" that makes me dangerous.

Yes, I have received helpful information from The Frenchtown Flyer when building the 300 Ford 6.
The Bantam body looks really good on your car. I didn't know there was a fiberglass Bnatam coupe body that was that close to stock appearing.
If I reach full potential with my dragster next summer I imagine the next series of improvements will be a looser converter, bigger cam, a little more off the head and some porting.

Tom, I will try to e-mail you a picture of that t bucket and pickup bed so you know what`s up. Know that it is street weight. I also have one with wheel cutouts and turtledeck at race weight hanging from the rafters after I switched to the fiat body in NE-2

Thanks Dan. Maybe I can drill some holes along bottom of the body to take out some weight. I know some areas that can shed a few pounds. Would really like to stay with the street T & the pickup bed as it will fit in a 24' trailer with my pit cart.

Wish I knew how to post the picture with the shot full size so you do not need to click on the small shot. If anyone can do that, go for it, I know Dan would love it. What say (old6rodder) maybe you!;);)

Got to say that Bantam is one fine SDRA dragster, when he gets the building bugs out of the way it will be quick also.:D:)

Frenchtown, no need to thank me. In the trades, we call someone who`s been around for awhile as having whiskers. You got whiskers

Flyer -- Ya that's the ride I tried to make a deal on a few months ago. If memory is correct the owner said the car ran a best of 11.35 with the Ford 300, single 4 bl carb, C4 trans with a steel body (correct me if I am wrong).

Dan, I sure would pay the price of admission to see the two cars at the line side by side. Know you have a number to work towards.:D

Damn. Looks like Old Sparks and Old6rodder done up and started the HA/GC (Honky Ass/Gas Competition) class. Shades of '65.

I must say that old6rodder HA/GR with it's side by side layout and the open body style and Old Sparks new SDRA Comp/Coupe Bantam have added some real interest to both classes. I, like 64 DODGE 440 will be adding a 23 T body to by ride next year. I think the different styles of HA/GR & SDRA setup's show what can be done.

"Build It -- Run It -- Enjoy It" That's what the classes are about.
