You must have your trannies mixed up. The M5R2 (what I am assuming you are calling a M5OD) has a 3.75:1 1st, hardly granny gear when you consider the NP435 4 speed that was used in the early and mid 80's had a 6.69:1 first gear. Now that is a granny gear. Some of the ZF 5 speeds used in the 90's had a 5.72:1 1st, which is getting into granny low territory.

The truck looks awesome mtp, keep up the good work.

It seemed to be almost a granny gear and could take off in 2nd if not loaded, not sure what gear ratio the truck had but it was enough to make make first gear useless most of the time.

Thanks everyone for the compliments. To answer your questions: the rear axle was swapped for a full float Dana 60 from a 1987 F250. As for the firewall mounted master cylinder, it was part of a kit that included a brace that squeezes the firewall and connects to the bottom of the dash (uses same bolts as the steering column). In short; I can slam on the brakes as hard as I can and cannot get anything to move at all.

Brute strength and ignorance can overcome any mechanical problem.

Thanks for the reply. Your build shows that some of the younger generation have their heads on straight. You preplanned and researched before breaking out the torches and hammers. The reason I commented on the firewall flex is because I learned the old school way: try it, bad idea, scratch your head, try again. Your way is better.

  6. Great job on making the modifications and improvements toy our truck. Even better doing it as a young guy. Keep up the good work!

Glad to hear its doing good,I had one of those motors in a 95 F150 and really liked it but it rusted away to nothing and since it had close to 300,000 miles it was not worth putting in another vehicle.

Beautiful truck man! I love it when somebody puts something together from scratch, and then uses it.

Got about 5000 miles on the truck now and it's doing great. Slowly improving the interior as well. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459450825.343933.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459450842.211006.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459450858.244966.jpg ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1459450898.498827.jpg
