Here you can see the original rear that was under the car. First it was painted red, then later Gold which was probably done in late 59 to match the gold injected Nailhead for the 60 GSTA show

This is getting a little off track, and probably deserving of a thread in itself, but I guess the cars were stable mates for awhile . In a lot of the background pics you can see the "Copper Penny" "A" sedan on Deuce rails built by Kurt and the team at Creative Metalworks for Rich Holte. Steve shot this car for HOP UP I think.

These are just a few images. Steve was a humble guy but was a pretty damn good photographer. I picked a few of my favorites

As I mentioned Steve got the dimpled boxing plates and x-member pieces from Ionia Hot Rods. Here's a few old pictures that Steve took on his visit to Ionia may years ago... I'm still bummed that I lost my favorite Ionia Hot Rods hat in a truck stop coming back from the HAMB drags. I might have to call Denny..

These guys have build some nice stuff in the last 10 years....

so unless steve called in fabricators to trade for press he had fortune just in the chassis. I think he would be xtremly proud of the way you are finishing the car. I have read your brother from time time and this is aperfect tribute. thanx for sharing. tom

I appreciate those pics of the chassis in the jig. Really gives a good perspective on what it takes to make a frame straight. It didn't look too bad before, but it obviously took quite a bit of work to make it perfect.

I don't know***** here...I really don't. I guess that's why I spend so much time reading, and watching. Just two cents....but the car's history, your brother's life, and all the things that make this special....for you/your dad....I think.....would really make a great book.

My shelves are full of many names....it would be really cool to get one with the non-editor/press brother's take on the fun one can spend in metal...and pages. This is an excellent thread, but I am more here for the previous sentences then anything. I respect the hell out of all of this.

Great build tread. Thanks for sharing. I like the tail shaft jig. I'll have to build myself one of those.

I can't take credit for the chassis setup on this car. This is Creative Metalworks.
    Thanks Mart!
Not really....no doubt there is a lot of fabrication, but when you use someone that builds a lot if chassis it makes them more productive and amortizes the fixture investment, and not as expensive as it looks. Factor that with midwest rates!

For as straight as the car was, and as good as the chassis looked it was tweaked pretty good. Not sure how or why the left rear frame horn was hacked, and the right drooped. Maybe it was hit atone time.

Thanks, just hot rodders like the rest of us! Appreciate the comment.
I thought that was pretty innovative for something universal, and unobtrusive to fabricate around. Speaks to the above if you use someone that has done this many times it can pay off.

Lafayette is only 6 miles from my shop so it's on my list for a shakedown run. It might even be with open headers

I believe that 1st 32 was later owned by Steve Anderson and turned into the black pro-street coupe that your brother shot for a feature in Rodders Digest. Ray Heinen later owned the big snowmobile dealership in Osseo, MN.

"The Tempest 2" 4 door model A was later turned into a resto rod style street rod, and lost to time. That is one that SHOULD have be brought back to it show/drag car glory! Unfortunately, it was street rodded in a time where no one really cared about a rods history.

That's a shame. Anderson's incarnation was typical of the 80's and was top notch fab by Fleury, but The car didn't look right in my eyes. Steve did shoot it in front if Mickeys Diner at night which was cool.

Today I stopped a show cars, a place that specializes in impala and 409 parts. I was measuring for my drive shaft and the 56 olds******* has a spline count and diameter as a power glide. I had read in another thread that there close but not the same. That is what I confirmed as my yoke doesn't fit a power glide. I just need to make sure and use the olds yoke and front of the shaft

While there I picked up this PCV kit that will fit in the road draft tube of the valley Pan. The kit is for Chevy but works great, and I can port the PCV into the rear carb.

I also sacrificed a stock valley pan for another sheet metal tube bung to accept a oil fill tube since the edmund valve covers have no breathers

Picked up a small agm battery for Miata. Need to start a mounting setup next.

Here's an update with no pics....yet. My phone battery died after listening to Pandora for 14 hours straight, and made some good progress.

I got a battery box fabricated, painted, mounted. I went with the small AGM Miata Battery, I hope that it has enough cold cranking amps to spin the Buick. As a precaution I decided to go with a gear drive starter as they draw a lot less current. And speaking of current. I kept holding a big Buick generator over the top of the motor, and I just couldn't bring myself to use it. Instead I am running a very small Denso 50A one wire alternator. I'll build a mount down low, on the lower right of the motor.

Got a nice start on the wiring. Everthing under the dash is pretty much run and connected. I wrapped the wiring inside the car and I'm waiting on some resin coated cloth jacket stuff for the engine area, headlights, tailights etc.

    Pics tomorrow!

Absolutely love everything about this build, the men,the story and the coupe.

I remember reading the article about finding the car in Rodders Digest... HRP

  26. Very impressive.

Be interested in seeing the mount you make for the small alternator.

now you gotta ditch those 2 jet rochestors carbs and stick a set of carter WCDs on that edmunds intake, i might have some around!

here my edmunds 2x2 with WCDs!

That looks really nice. I didn't consider WCD's, whats the approx CFM?. Are the Stellings new or old?

Im not sure on the cfms on em, i know edmunds stuff was designed to accept 2 stock carbs, i know they probably arent any bigger cfms than rochestors.

The air cleaners are the night prowlers brand repops of the stellings, would love to find an original set but these are the best looking repops out there.

I found a set of the Hurst mounts when I built my chassis: 322 into a '32. I decided not to use the little horseshoe risers (I boxed the mount). I ran a '40 steering box too, cut and splined, which I hooked to a '40 column with knuckles. It's got nearly 5000 miles on it. Here's a pic of it roughed in: MotorMnt.JPG
