It's sad they're all grown up, but soon you'll have GREAT grandkids! I'm sure they have as many good memories as you do of those pedal cars. Maybe it's time to p*** some of them on to new families to be enjoyed by the next generation?

Well. I had a conversation with my Grandchildren about they old pedal cars. Do you want them for your kids??? Or what to do with them. .............The reply was not what I had expected. Pa we love you, but we are not into that old time pedal car stuff. So thank you for keeping them, we will dispose of them when you are gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just like all the other material thing I have loved to collect my entire life. I am sad!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad it is !! I have no idea who will get my stuff, none of the family give enough of a damn about it to let them have any of the cars and collectables. I hope to meet some young people with an genuine interest in the above and just let them take things over.
I really hate to see family members sell these things for a fast buck or to run it into the ground from not caring for them correctly. JW

The first generation makes it, the second generation invests it, and the third blows the heck out of it! Or at least, that's what I have always heard. Maybe with age and wisdom, their ideas will change for the better. For now, keep on collecting what makes you happy. I do.

Hotrod-Willys, all of us older guys know how you feel..............time flies so fast and you sit back and wonder where the hell it went ! When I think that my own two Sons are 44 years old it amazes me, I remember just a little while ago when I was 44 !

But we have to take consolation that we did a good job raising our kids and now can be our time to enjoy ourselves. No more pressures about trying to raise a family, and all of that stuff. We can relax and do what we want to do.

As far as p***ing along our "treasures", one time I was standing in our shop and jokingly I pointed to all the car parts I had stuck in every hole in the shop and I said "Some day all of this will be yours, guys !" They said "You better never die, old man !" :p:p I guess I better get rid of some of it before I go. :D

  13. I'm 41. Both my parents are gone. It's funny how I enjoy the smallest things that I've kept. My daughter made cookies the other day with a small old hand mixer I saved from my moms house. I remember playing with it with my sister as a kid.
I can understand they may not be into what you're into. I sure hope they reconsider their plan. Seems to me they would regret not keeping one in memory of you.
I really hope you show them this thread.

I'm 24 and I would still love to have an old metal pedal car!!! I had a big plastic fire truck when I was little. One day I hope to get a real pedal car and either keep it for myself or let my kids have them (when I have kids)

I think many parents today have been convinced that those old steel toys aren't safe...My kids are still pretty young and they didn't have old pedal cars. But, they had a couple reproductions that look old now after they got done thrashing them!

  17. Yes it is so sad that our children have no interest in the things that The U.S.A. was built on. All they are interested in are thing that have a computer on them and MONEY MONEY!!!!!!!!! and don't want to work for the MONEY. But I guess we have caused that with the way we have let the U.S.A. go. Our Children don't have any interest in material things they just don't understand how it was, so we actually made something out of what we had growing up as children. So disappointed in the kids of today. Sorry that is the way i feel but when they can't even have a conversation with you and it more important to be on their Cell Phone Or Computer it just drives me NUTS!!!!!!!!!!

Appreciation for older things of value is instilled when they are young and how involved they are in building there own if there is interest. With my kids I was fortunate they have an appreciation but the cars and stuff they have and received we built versus buying done so they were involved in the process. My stuff will go to good homes

This is my plan as well. I already have project vehicles for both my boys and they are only 10...I just know that I appreciated my first car a lot more after I had to rebuild it before ever driving it. And, the time spent with my dad was priceless. I at least want my kids to appreciate the old stuff so it can make its way to further generations, although don't want them to get to the point of worshiping the stuff (like I did for a time in my life). The main things I hope I can p*** on as far as this old stuff goes is an at***ude that you fix things, not throw them away and an appreciation for our history.

My son is getting married next year and they are mentioning having kids within a few years. I have been plotting a cool pedal car for my grandchild for a few years. The way that I have been procastrinating as of late, I had better get started on one soon.

I wish that I still had my old pedal tractor from about 1965. I remember it as awesome, if a bit easy to tip over.

My girls could care less, they were raised in the back seat of one hot rod or another and went to many nationals shows in the old 40 Ford sedan.

They have no interest except the money they could get for selling my small fleet,I do however have a 18 year old granddaughter that loves old cars will end up with the wagon,it's already in the will.

My grandson is not interested in old cars and the youngest granddaughter was named after a historic hot rod pioneer woman...Veda,hopefully she will take the torch and continue the tradition. HRP

Its all a matter of age specific perspective. If you had asked me at 30 if I wanted my mom's cookie cutter collection (!), I would have said "Hell No". But now in my seventh decade, I find great enjoyment in making Christmas cookies each year with them, the santas, the trees, the bells, just like she did.
I have a friend who is into old Porsches. He had a real speedster, complete but apart flawless body, and a '61 twin grille roadster. He was doing planning and asked his physician son if he wanted the cars left to him. Boy had no interest, flat said don't leave them to me. So he sold the speedster to a guy in Italy and still drives the '61 but will sell it one of these days. I'll bet that kid will rue the day at some point in his life he didn't take custody of those cars.
I intend to drive the wheels off my '40 and don't care if any of the grandsons want it or not. But I suspect the youngest, who is into wheels and gears, might just want Pop's ol' hot rod.

It's a natural progression - each generation has to find their own thing. The only thing that pisses me off is that when I die, I'm going to miss the best auction I've ever been to...........

Honestly, I don't know about my boys, who are both in their 20s. Both drive '70s cars (no air bags!) and like them, but neither show a great deal of mechanical ap***ude. I'll probably sell the lot of cars and trucks before I turn 60, keep one, and go from there. Keep enough spares for the one, of course. And what my wife does with that car when I'm gone is up to her. She knows what the cars are worth, and won't be snookered by so-called "friends" after the fact.

My kids and grandkids have minimal interest as well. They are all great kids and doing well-just have no interest. They only would want them to sell and acquire the money. When I ck out my wife can sell them or I may sell a couple in a few years. She knows about the cars and could get rid of them. The only car that makes her nervous is the 57 FI Chevy as there aren't many who can tune it and keep it running correctly.

Sad, but true. I'm proud of all my children and they have become good/great people they are my greatest success in life, that being said, none of them have any interest in my cars, collections, etc. Every generation changes, because of this, I'm going to reduce my inventory some, do not enjoy working on them as much as I used to, but have 1 project to finish and I need a reason to get and get going, afraid if I stop, I will stop. LOL

I bought this from my neighbor. Its not old but they bought it for their son and ended up in their yard sale. Someday it will be old and I will be dead.

My son and I were cleaning out our attic and pulled out the pedal cars. My son said he would like them for his kids. Hes going to be 24 and a total gearhead. But im still going to get rid of a lot of my stuff that i will never use to unburden my family if something were to happen to me. The money i get will be used for a vacation with my family.
