Thanks all! I just wish I had some real progress and pics to show. This just doesn't seem to be the season for building hot rods. I still haven't pulled the floor out to square up the cab. But this is with a rusty corner patch representing a 1" anti-section.
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1419121469.219095.jpg
I think I might then slope the lower cowl panel up to mimic the frame as to not having cab hanging lower than frame. I think this would be around an inch rise from the front door edge.
On a side thought, if I were to build a truck again I would love to put a car cowl section on and maybe flush mount the doors. A coupe/sedan windshield and front roof section with a chop would be cool too.

No the green one is a old Stingray fast back five speed, I "custom" restored it for my wife about eight years ago(the metalflake is hand laid with a salt shaker cause it kept clogging the gun). She bought me the black one a couple years later at a Walmart Blackfriday sale. Hers doesn't have the ramshorn handlebars on it. I put a bigger front wheel on mine to make it look less "crate"

We arrived home today from the holidays and this panel greeted me at the front door.

I probably won't use it's entirety for it is cut down 2.75" but I need it to fix this mess.

How the time flys! I haven't touched my PU since December. Life and winter just got in the way, oh well. I have scrounged up more do-dads, all unworthy of mention. I haven't forgot about working on it in the least. I've been doing home projects and working on guitars(all traditional, lol)mostly. The whole family has been sick way to many times this winter which really eats up time. So I'll be back on it soon and I'll keep everyone posted. Sorry to disappoint those it may concern, Wyatt.

Another two months has passed and I still haven't touched my 32, unless you count stacking cardboard and motorcycle parts in the bed and freshly painted house trim on the roof of the cab. What a damn shame! At least it is fulfilling some truck type duties being a somewhat helpful tool for other projects.

I saw this little old toy hot rod at the Indy Children's Museum where I take the kids. It made me set a new tentative deadline to get back on "my baby" by Fathers Day, will see?

  12. Seeing that little car at the museum is kismet, a nudge from the beyond to get after it before you run out of time. Or it was a coincidence.:p:)

  13. Sounds like you need to hit up a few traditional shows to reignite the fire to build. That seems to always motivate me when I'm feeling overwhelmed. That truck would've been a lot farther along since your 'break' from it last December, not trying to be an ass, just sayin.:)

Cleaning on the garage all this weekend long to get back at a workable space. Also I keep ditching any Nylock nuts and Phillips head screws laying around cause I would never use them on this build. I have always loved cotter pins. I think they look tough and dangerous, kinda like them evil hubcaps in grease, also road racing street bikes years ago got me over my fear of drilling bolt heads for safety wire so there's always that too.

So I didn't really get the garage finished yet. The wife has me working on some stuff out there for a Print making class she will be teaching for a little bit this summer(maybe I can get around to making those "Patiently Waiting" 3wLarry shirts I've mentioned somewhere on the HAMB). Before I came in to settle down and sip a cheap beer I took a look at this guy again...

I was wondering if any of the fellas have ever stuffed a modern coil inside of the "oldies"? My plan of putting a MSD blaster in mine has a slight roadblock in that I want to run the Delco Bakelite cap on top still. This would require hooking the to wire terminals up inside to the new coil and cutting down the new coil while also machining out the inside bottom of the said Bakelite top. I just had the idea since I will be mounting the coil to my firewall, that I could leave this housing empty as dummy and with a extra rubber cap slid down a long (cloth covers)coil wire, just run the coil wire, positive lead, and ground, into it then out a hole or three(w/grommets of course) through the firewall to the MSD mounted under the dash in the cab. This would be far easier but, would this be lazy or less cool and interesting? I would appreciate thoughts or pics on this type of conversion if someone has tackled it already. Thanks Wyatt B.

After a couple years, I just notice on another thread Mart, that your avatar is not only a combustion chamber but also a self portrait? Is that serialism or abstract?[emoji57]

    hi mate - great writeup.
I've got exactly the same old coil setup as you for my roadster and I'm playing around with it at the moment to do the same thing.
i'll keep you informed as too how it goes or hopefully you'll solve the problem first!!

Looks like I'm probably taking the easy road on this one. Stripped most the paint off planning on if I will redo it like original, paint in the fins to match engine or maybe valve covers, or leave it raw. If I go the quick route and run my wires through it into the firewall I would be able to run a street and a race coil under the dash with a quick connect. Hell I guess I could even put a spare in to.

The things we'll do for stance. Thanks to the peer pressure of the Dennis Lacy 32 PU thread, I'm going to put 32 spindles on here. For me it's secondly about the 1/2" lower I can get. Firstly though it's because of the stock 32 steering arm. I have been mulling over welding a 32-34 arm on to my 42 spindles for a long while. I so badly don't want to use my boring "overused" aftermarket piece. Also I just haven't come up with a fresh way of making the cliche drilled filler plate after bending.
Step two is to attempt cutting a 1/2" out of my spring perch and welding it back together if clearance will allow. Right now I can easily slip my greasy thumb in between the spring and axle at a simulated ride height. I'd be cool with a 1/8" after the shackle reaches max swing down as the spring is flattened.

Yeah, the 'warming'. I lived in Aptos for years, 100 feet above the famed 'Cement Boat'. Surfed every morning, before my early Porsche appointments.
If the ocean temps are rising, I'm still not selling my wet suits...
My '52 Porsche pre speedster was still freezing to drive every day, but I braved it! (top down, natch!)
    Ignore the 'gore'...

Shine...As much as we've been through! The F-1 axle has earned its place in 'proclivity'...after all your efforts to 'pin it' thru the perch holes!

Cop out #1: Get hold of Sid, and have him drop it 2", no more... ($300, plus the $50 ride? Sid's is excellent, but the budget in mind precludes such a frivolous act...:D

Cop out #2, buy a dropped axle, $280+ the ride...

Solution my son came up with for an axle just like yours: (C/O his father,(me) axle came from famous Dennis Moomjean collection!) Uh...I kept the '37 tube for my 'T' roadster...
Son Rich has an original '24 Dodge 5 window coupe he's doing 'hiboy style, '55 Desoto Hemi, push button torqflite, F-1 front axle. BUT: he decided to mount reversed and flattened '34 spring just behind, in a Model A front crossmember, hangers hung thru the split wishbones, ('Rollin Bones style)
Son Rich ('Rich son') says he found 2" of extra drop, but notched bottom of frame rails 1.5"...
It is nifty, hope you'll consider it.
Wheelbase stays within 'confines', as it's a fenderless car!

Shine, why not cut the ends off your bones and turn them upside down. The thick boss would then be on the bottom, the thin one on top. That would help. You could use the thick boss to weld on a lower shock mount. I wouldn't cut the perches, they're too highly stressed.

I suppose I could machine down the top boss then put a new taper in the top. I don't know if it will give me the half inch I'm after but it might be clean. I'll look into ASAP.

So for today all I have to show is these few tidbits

The last time I tried to work on the truck before my big stall was in December. I was then and now not quite ready to take down its temporary mock up to finish the chassis. So I poked around in the cab. At the time I wanted to get the dash out and mix things up and possibly straighten and paint it for spiritual uplift-ment. I got all but two screws holding the windshield frame in and stopped for some reason I do not recall before drilling out the seized remainders. Today I put my own foot down and made myself finish something I started, which is rare. The pillar covers are still stuck, I think I'll get them next. I know its not much to some but I can't tell you how good it feels to get back at it. Funny, cause this stuff ain't easy kid.
As a bonus I discovered something that I've wondered about for while
    ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1435605745.222459.jpg
Seems old Henry let this one out the door with the dark green hue. I still wonder if it was a big truck or small.
Then for the first time in roughly 83 years the front glass has left its original resting place and been sent a pack'n, no wonder this stuff killed, it's thick, heavy, and hard( insert your jokes here: )-:

  28. Pretty cool man. No "stall", we all need to take a breath sometimes. You're doing far more then me ... hell I'm just breathing. Some times just taking up space. Is what it is. Good to see ya' kick your heels a little. Hope all is well.

Thanks as usual Kid. Today looking at the cabs junky status after my "breather" things look daunting. I had been use to looking at it's poor condition before. I'm not letting it get me down though. I said before I was after a hard project to save so I would test myself and know I dug deep and made something special. So that being said(again) if this baby meets my expectations it could be up there with some of the best cases of polishing piles of shit to a high luster sheen(with my personal toothbrush of course), Wyatt.

Doesn't look that rusty to me? Keep at it. If it was easy it wouldn't be any fun....
