Haven't located an owner yet, left my info in the mailbox for the business out front. Just sad to see a 55 left to rot. It's only a 6 and it's missing a far amount of trim and rust through in numerous places it's still a bel air. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
That looks good. Seen some that have been "saved" and looked worse after the new savers "cusstomized" them.
Don't wait on them to call you go in person when the business is open and take some cash with you, money talks.
The sad thing is, at least in the few cases I've tried, will be either the price will be almost as much as a drivable car or "I'm going to restore it" From what I see of the pictures it worth a little more than s**** price.
Any chance that is a V symbol on the body below the tail light? Maybe just a spot of dirt but you might want to double check. I think the stainless around the gas cap opening was an extra cost option, you might find other goodies on it. Charlie Stephens
Definitely looks like v-8 emblems below the tail lights, as well as a nice steering wheel. Looks like a keeper. Go for it.
I would agree there's something to work with on that car but I still wouldn't pay much more than s**** price for it. You'd end up sticking $20K into it to make it a $20K car.
That's not a parts car. If you can get a ***le for it its a 2 door builder. You buy it and buy a pretty good more door and junk it to fix the 2 Dr.
That's why us old guys get cur****eonly and wont sell. they get tired of bargain hunters and low ballers wanting to buy for s**** price. If he was interested in selling for s**** price it can be sold anytime. Because its a 55 two door just from the pictures & if it has a ***le I would offer a $1000 cash. Ive bought lots of vehicles that it was said they couldn't be bought. that's why I 0wn over 200 vehicles.
Just took the pics today at 1pm. I'll take a ride by again tomorrow and check the rear for emblems and try to find the owner again. Car has a straight six and an automatic transmission. I was looking at it as a parts car, but have to admit I've got a soft spot for straight sixes. Too bad it's not a three speed. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
too bad its not a three speed? Golly stick pedals & linkage are easy to find. Chop a hole in the floor for the shifter.
It appears to have the original bench seat. that is a easy $500 and the doors are $250 each easy sell. then there is garnish molding and the bel air trim.
Looks like someone forced the hood with frozen hinges. As long as the roof isn't rusting off it's not that far gone.
It's a 55 Chevy sitting in the open so the owner has been asked about it many times. Only way you buy it is to have enough cash in hand and hope you catch him on a selling day.
I bought my '31 RDPU the week the owner's income taxes were due. Later ran into someone that had been trying for years to buy it. Charlie Stephens
That building behind it could be the owners workshop, looks like an old gas station, this car may have been the owners parts car for one that got fixed. Its stripped pretty well for a stock type rebuild but would be a start for a racer or custom, sitting on the ground like that, plan on complete floors and rockers, and a very crunchy frame. Square Tube frame with a front clip and flat floors sounds good to me.
The comments about not paying more than s**** price slay me.I recently bought one similar to that and it did get parted out.Sold over $2K worth of parts.
Every piece that car needs to be on the road again is either reproduced or readily available somewhere. People have saved way worse.
The only thing that to me would prevent it being a builder would be if it didn't have a ***le or vin. I bought a 64 HTP that had the vin tag and got a bill of sale. Went for a bonded ***le. a ***le search by the DMV showed There was a lien in the ***le from a used car dealer that went out of business 40 years ago. the lien holder is long dead and there isn't any viable solution.
Here some inspiration, if you haven't already seen it: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/our-55-then-now.956923/#post-10766893 Looks like they started out with a car in a little better shape. I still say from just looking at the pictures there is something there but it's going to take a lot to make it into something drivable. I wouldn't go and pay Barret Jackson price for. It's going to need a lot more than a fresh crate engine and a coat of clear coat.
